JESSICA O’DONOGHUE Drops New Single Run Away From Debut EP, Emerge
EP Launch Shows For Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane
Run Away (alternative pop/adult alternative/dramatic pop) is Jessica’s brand new single, heading up the release of her debut EP, EMERGE. The song begins with an exposed vocal melody over a pure and catchy piano riff. Interjected with haunting vocals soaring above the delicate textures, this song explodes into an epic and emotive chorus. Building with synths and beats throughout, the music dances between fragility and dramatic force worthy of an anthem title. With the vocal qualities of Katie Noonan and Sarah Blasko and the drama of Sia and Kimbra, Jessica’s sound is definitely “pop music with a difference” (The Australian).
The new single is available now for airplay and via iTunes & Google Play. It follows on from her first two singles, Parachute and Flow, both of which launched to sold out shows in Sydney. An impressive endorsement from the independent music industry, the EP was also recently announced as a finalist in the 2016 MusicOz Australian Independent Music Awards. Now available to pre-order, every pre-order of EMERGE receives two instant grat tracks – Run Away and Parachute.
“This debut EP has been a long time coming. After an extensive and eclectic journey throughout my musical career, this album has been a chance for me to finally reconcile some of my many influences, from opera to contemporary pop to Sephardic Mediaeval music. It’s a small window into my inner life as a woman, an artist, a mother, and a human being,” says Jessica. “I really try to write in a way that is very exposed and honest and that seems to help people connect more intimately with my music. My new single, Run Away, I’m particularly excited to release ahead of the EP as it has always been one of my favourite tracks off the EP. With its mix of fragile vocal moments and epic and dramatic anthemic outbursts, it seems to really sum up what I’m about as an artist.”
More than a decade has passed since Jessica turned her back on an opera career to pursue eclectic musical experiences bound only by imagination. Her projects have ranged from pop music, particularly with the Sydney band CODA, to jazz, cabaret, musical theatre, Renaissance music and (yes) contemporary opera, with her creative ambitions culminating in EMERGE, a remarkable statement of intent from a singer confident in her own sound. Recorded and produced in Sydney by Neal Sutherland (Bertie Blackman, Jack Ladder, Sarah Blasko, Megan Washington, Josh Pyke, Julian Hamilton (Presets) and Sophie Lowe), Jessica will be launching the EP with shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Jessica has performed in festivals and venues around the world, including VIVID Festival, Sydney Festival (Opera House), Adelaide Festival (Adelaide Festival Centre), Melbourne International Arts Festival (Malthouse), Movimentos Festival (Wolfsburg), Georgetown Festival (Penang), and multiple festivals around Europe.

“Hypnotic, powerful and haunting. The vocals remind me of Sarah Blasko, soaring with an unrestrained strength. The production has so much depth, and a uniquely raw edge that keeps me completely captivated. It’s safe to say that I’m a fan.”
