Joe Mungovan is gearing up for a massive year and he’s it kicking off with his first single “Handmidowns”. Mungovan showcases his rare knack for writing memorable melodies that leave his listeners feeling that his songs are as well lived-in as their favorite pair of jeans. With his new track he expertly weaves a tapestry of genres to deliver an indie-pop anthem about the importance of doing what’s right for you – “Handmidowns” is an ode to following your passions.
Recorded between his home studio in the mountains near Berry and The Grove Studios on the central coast of NSW, “Handmidowns” was co-produced by Mungovan and Izaac Wilson. The track was mixed by Izaac Wilson and mastered by Joe Carra. Wanting to add a little spark to the track Joe was joined in the studio by his mates Riley Stratton Jackson (bass) & Evan Kerr (keys) – “This is the first time I’ve ever had other musicians in the studio with me. Prior to Handmidowns, I’ve always recorded all the parts by myself. It was awesome to hear other musicians play the parts and bring their own flavour to the track.”
Excited to share the ‘why’ of his lifelong devotion to his craft – Joe offers up empathy and connection through the familiar comfort of his groove-based-indie-sound. “I want this song to empower whoever listens to it to believe they can do exactly what they want and to tread their own path in life. Writing this song has had a strong impact on my outlook and I hope it can help others.”

The multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer, who has been honing his craft since the age of 9, began his career as a drummer but when a near fatal skateboarding accident would leave him unable to walk for six months, he picked up the guitar and found his love for songwriting. He has since shared stages with acts such as Lime Cordiale, Gang Of Youths, The Preatures, Paul Dempsey, JOY, Maddy Jane, The Vanns, Winterbourne, Brad Cox, Cosmo Jarvis (US), Hollie Smith (NZ), Ian Moss (Cold Chisel), Mark Seymour (Hunters and Collectors), Glenn Shorrock (Little River Band).
Throughout his career, Joe Mungovan has been praised for constructing melodies that expand from traditional pop and rock songwriting structures. His songs have been played across Triple j, Double j and community radio, video support across Rage and MTV and press praise in Rolling Stone, Pilerats, Music Feeds, Au Review, The Music to name a few. Mungovan’s songwriting has also seen him nominated for an APRA Award and Golden Guitar Award in 2021, and a Finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. We can’t wait to see what 2023 holds for Joe!
Joe has recently featured as the main support for The Vanns and joined them on their Australian tour, playing in Newcastle, Melbourne, Sydney, Wollongong, and Brisbane.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
