Gugu Yalanji songman JUNGAJI has been announced amongst the deadly lineup appearing on the Archie Roach Stage at this year’s Port Fairy Folk Festival, as Jungaji and his band ramble around Australia launching his new single RENAISSANCE RAMBLER (out March 1).
RENAISSANCE RAMBLER was produced by ARIA Award winner Cody McWaters (King Stingray, The Chats, Selfish Sons, Osaka Punch, Rewiggled), recorded at Hunting Ground Studios in Brisbane.
A rollicking track that ramps up the beat from his soulful RnB flavoured releases that dropped last year (‘Wakka Wakka Woman’ and ‘Pilbara Man’ singles), the song speaks of an ongoing story of ancestors fighting for social justice and human rights for Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This fight continues to this day with Jungaji himself being a renaissance rambler who travels the country engaging in various intellectual and cultural pursuits while advocating for the well-being of Indigenous communities in Australia with a commitment to the values of equality and cultural respect within the modern era.
Jungaji (formerly Troy Brady) is a First Nations Gugu Yalanji songman, visual artist, playwright, and activist who has been renowned in the Australian music industry for three decades, first appearing on the scene as a teenager with Aim4More in the 90s who had an incredible sold-out reunion show earlier last year in Brisbane.
Jungaji has embarked on a new creative path, fusing RnB and Soul to create a unique and authentic sound that showcases his cultural roots. After undergoing a deep cultural transformation, he has embraced a profound understanding of his identity and is now dedicated to sharing his authentic voice and artistic testimony with the world.
Jungaji said “This song is an ode to my grandfather Pastor Don Brady – he was a philosopher, an innovator and a social rights activist who under the guise of the church had the opportunity to engage with other Aboriginal peoples throughout QLD and NSW when it was illegal for blackfullas to congregate and discuss matters relating to the advancement of Aboriginal affairs, particularly at a time when blackfullas were governed under the Aboriginal Protection Act.
Grandfather even managed to engage and exchange with Black Panther Leaders in LA (USA) in the mid 60s to share of the atrocities and human rights abuses that blackfullas were being subjected to, to which upon learning of his illegal activities the church stood him down. This song illuminates and celebrates his contribution to the advancement of many black organisation alongside other strong leaders to which we benefit today through health, education, housing, legal affairs and cultural identity, which Grandfather Don encouraged mob to learn traditional language and dance at a time when anything culture related was demonised by the white powers to be.
It is with absolute pride that I continue to carry Grandfathers’ spears and legacy in ensuring his testimony amongst many other great leaders of that time is shared with our younger generations and the broader public, and that his achievements are celebrated.”

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
