Maitland’s own prodigy producer Just A Gent has today released his brand new EP Autopilot, with 5 eerie, heavy and club ready tracks begging to be played on a sound system near you. Autopilot is the fourth EP from the young local producer following on from his previous acclaimed EP releases Urca, http://EP and Stories to Tell which have tallied over 100 million streams collectively.

On the EP, Just A Gent challenged himself creatively and took the vibe of 2020 into this EP, noting  “This EP was about trying to create something new and trying not to overthink every little change I made. I switched off autopilot and tried to live and create in the moment without second guessing myself. These tracks are some of the heaviest and darkest I have ever released and I think that just reflects how this year has had us all feeling and me using my music as an outlet to express those emotions.”

Also hinting he will be resuming touring when possible saying, “I cannot wait to get into some dark dirty club rooms and play these out. I hope you enjoy and I’ll see you all soon!”

Title track ‘Autopilot’ sets the mood of the EP with an eerie tone, leading into big and bold synths and high voltage stabs before the second drop turns the track into drum and bass face melter. ‘Element 13’ is a step into the glitchy world, weaving intricate vocal samples throughout the track, building and building throughout the song, finally erupting into hypnotic super saw leaving you wanting more. ‘Era’ is bass heavy hip hop influenced cut, taking Just A Gent’s sound production to new heights and continuing the ominous and eerie tone and mood of the EP. Fourth track ‘Serial’ is a swaggy synth heaven with delicate plucks adding drama from the very beginning. The track goes on a juxtaposing journey through three different drops, with an extra speedy surprise in the third. Closing out the EP ‘Sub Zero’ starts with calming synths and soothing pitched up vocals lulling you into a false sense of security before quickly erupting into a drop with clever filter work and future bass synths, ending the EP on a less ominous and more upbeat note.

Autopilot is a heavy, bold statement EP showcasing the young producers sound design.

Previously released EP single ‘Element 13’ has ticked over 240,000 streams on Spotify and was added to New Dance Beats and Friday Crate Diggers.  Just A Gent has also been incredibly busy in 2020, from his hip hop collaboration with Nerve, to electronic tracks with Xavi, SMLE to a more pop future bass track with Caitlin Scarlett.

In 2019 Just A Gent released his third EP URCA through Monstercat which was well received by media and fans alike, with Just A Gent going on to perform at FOMO, Groovin the Moo and Falls Festival over the year. His tracks like ‘Heavy as Heartbreak’ have gone on to see him gain over 75 million streams on Spotify alone, be added to high rotation on triple j and be asked to perform a coveted Like A Version.

Autopilot is spooky, driving and addictive dance music, ready for the festival season to return.
