dials euphoria up to 11 on
‘HE’S EVERYTHING’ – Out July 25
Just Shy dials pop euphoria up to 11 on his new single He’s Everything. The propulsive, emotional track harnesses ornate melodies, escapist lyrics and precise synth-pop production to celebrate love.
Elated but edged with wistfulness, He’s Everything is an unapologetic Big Gay Love Song. (Yes, we’ve missed the boat on a Pride Month release date.) The lyrics see Just Shy reflect on a deep romantic relationship, as he sings “every trip around the sun just makes me want another one, I’m gonna go until I’ve spun out.”
The exhilarating song matches a high BPM (131, to be specific) with memorable vocal melodies, and glowing production flourishes (provided by Dion Shaw). These elements crystallise into a euphoric, Balearic-tinged soundscape reminiscent of Kylie Minogue, SG Lewis and Gorillaz’s On Melancholy Hill. The song conjures up images of basking in the late afternoon sunshine, cocktail in hand.
“I’m so proud of He’s Everything – it’s probably my favourite song I’ve released so far,” says Just Shy. “It marries pop sensibilities with romanticism in a way I haven’t done before, and I hope that translates. Ever since writing this song I’ve pictured myself performing it outdoors with the sun starting to set and the wind in my hair. I can’t wait to bring that vision to life!”
He’s Everything is Just Shy’s third release this year, rounding out a trio of solo singles that have received support from Purple Sneakers, Jon Ali’s Queer Necessities, JOY 94.9, The Musical Hype and more.
Coinciding with this run of releases, Just Shy has built a regular live presence across Melbourne, with sets at venues like The Gasometer, Yah Yahs (supporting fellow Australian pop up-and-comer Beks), the Kindred Bandroom, the Prince Bandroom (as part of Midsumma Festival), Love Break at UBQ, The Catfish and more. “He’s Everything is so much fun to play live,” he says. “Crowds are already responding really well to it, so I can’t wait to see how that evolves once people have had the chance to digest the studio version.”
A surefire soundtrack to rooftop parties and intimate reflections on love, He’s Everything is a celebration of love in all its forms, and a ray of sonic sunshine to brighten up any day.
