JXN (the artist born Jackson Brazier) made an impressive debut last year with the launch of his single ‘Solitude’, but the promising young Australian artist has barely begun to show off the extent of his talent. He’s now released ‘Red Lights’, a collaboration with king of New York rap A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, which marks the beginning of a bright new chapter in JXN’s career, available to download or stream here. The fact that a collaboration this huge is coming so early into JXN’s career is a marker of the taste and creative flair he showed with ‘Solitude’. A feature from A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie—who’s just coming off the back of his US Billboard #1 album Hoodie SZN (featuring the tracks ‘Look Back At It’ and ‘Swervin’) —is a symbolic passing of the baton from one current star to another future star.
A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s presence on ‘Red Lights’ isn’t by chance; it was on a recent trip to Australia for Laneway Festival when it all fell into place.
“I just went to Australia for the first time on tour and while I was out there, someone told me about this artist named JXN,” A Boogie says of how ‘Red Lights’ came to be. “I looked him up, watched a couple of his videos and they were fire. I later found out we were on the same label, so I told them to set it up; we had to do something together.”
JXN says: “I’m pretty stoked to have A Boogie on the song. His verse fits perfectly, and I love his work, so I’m feeling happy about it.”
‘Red Lights’ is an idiosyncratic, star-making single; JXN shows the same kind of charisma as Frank Ocean did on ‘Thinking Bout You’ or Post Malone did on ‘Congratulations’. Guitar blends seamlessly with sleek trap drums on ‘Red Lights’, providing a perfect backing for JXN’s understated but emotional performance.
It’s a special kind of artist that has a handle on their own sound so early in their career, but JXN is a rare breed—a songwriter that truly creates, instead of emulating or imitating.
Brazier wrote ‘Red Lights’ from his bed at 3am one night, sending voice memos and lyrics overseas to his producers. By the time sunrise hit, the song was finished. It’s what Brazier calls a “happy vibes” track, about taking all the negative energy in your life and channeling into something positive.
Brazier says of ‘Red Lights’: “It’s about mates hanging out. The ‘red light’ is any negative energy or negativity; it’s about using that as motivation to succeed.”
If the reaction to ‘Solitude’ is anything to go by, Brazier is a testament to channeling success. ‘Solitude’ has had over 2 million streams globally and nearly 200k views on YouTube, and garnered Brazier spots as Channel [V]’s first UNCO[V]ERED artist for 2019 and as a MTV Upload of the Week artist.

Add that to an Apple Music ‘New Artist of the Week’ accolade and radio adds on triple j, Hit Network and Nova, and it looks like JXN is shaping up to be one of Australia’s most successful—and most boundary pushing—new stars.
While JXN might seem like he’s destined for stardom, his feet are still planted firmly on the ground. For him, this music is about human connection, not material gain.
“I’ve always used music to reach out and connect with people, and give people different emotions. It’s very important to me that I get my messages across, inspire people and make people happy.” – JXN
‘Red Lights’, with its experimental tenor and genre less style, is sure to send JXN’s message loud and clear. It’s the sound of hope, happiness and artistic power. And most of all, it’s the sound of a bright new star signaling his arrival to Australia—and the world.
