Naarm-based neo-soul queen Kaiit shares her newest single, “Lil Mama Theme Song”, following a feature on Zane Lowe’s New Music Daily on Apple Music. A playful reminder of lessons learned the hard way, “Lil Mama Theme Song” is out now via her label Big Sis Energy Records.
Written in the searing heat of her childhood home in Papua New Guinea during a time of distraction and self-sabotage, “Lil Mama Theme Song” unpacks a journey of recklessness and renewal through Kaiit’s protagonist, Lil Mama. By day, Lil Mama works in a barbershop; by night, she escapes to a hidden speakeasy within a drive-in cinema, where she comes alive through tap-dancing and performance. Produced by Rascal (Kendrick Lamar, Chance The Rapper), the song’s spellbinding rhythm and Kaiit’s embracing melodies invite listeners into a rich narrative of personal evolution and resilience. The accompanying music video delves further into themes of self-worth and determination, illustrating Kaiit’s own journey through Lil Mama.
Kaiit says on the new single: “Lil Mama, the song, is a musical reminder from lessons I don’t want to learn again. At the time of writing Lil Mama Theme Song, I was distracting myself a lot by going out, drinking, self sabotaging myself really, because I knew the next day I had things to do. Lyrically, for the most part, I write like I’m talking to myself, so when I listen to my music I’m lowkey yelling the reminders AT ME!”

Recently, Kaiit was announced as one of 20 international artists to take part in Jameson’s inaugural Distilled Sounds music programme. As part of this, the songwriter traveled to Ireland to write, record, produce and perform music with multi-Grammy award-winner Anderson .Paak. Back in May, Kaiit previewed “Lil Mama Theme Song” and her upcoming record to fans at her captivating headline show for Vivid Sydney. The songwriter brought her universe to life in Sydney Opera House’s Drama Theatre, embodying Lil Mama’s passion, energy and penchant for tap dance.
Growing up between Papua New Guinea and Australia, Kaiit released her debut single “Natural Woman” in 2017 and has continued to gain adoration ever since, including nods from R&B icon Jill Scott, who described the young singer as her musical love child with Erykah Badu, alongside BritishVogue, Rolling Stone Australia and FADER. Kaiit’s 2018 debut Live From Her Room EP has amassed over 28 million Spotify streams since its release, and features the leading single that shot her onto national and global airwaves, “OG Luv Kush p.2”.
Kaiit took Live From Her Room across the country for a sold out 13 date national tour, before winning the Archie Roach Award for Emerging Talent at the Music Victoria Awards later that year. Next in 2019, her empowering anthem “Miss Shiney”, written from Papua New Guinea, collected the ARIA Award for Best Soul/R&B Release and later won Vanda & Young’s Global Songwriting Competition. On stage, Kaiit has opened for R&B superstar SZA, The Internet, Smino and funk legends Chaka Khan and Nile Rodgers.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
