Praise for KATANAK
“This one is just a straight up good time! Kooks, San Cisco sorta vibes that’ll have you moving no matter where you are” Dave Ruby Howe (Triple J)
“Ever the sonic chameleon, he’s proven time and time again that he can’t be pinned to just one genre and only continues to grow, surprise and impress.” Hayden Mills, Live Wire
At first listen, you may fall into this trap, trying to pinpoint who Katanak sounds like. Stop yourself. That’s the beauty of the artist’s vocals – they’re homegrown, Aussie and uniquely his own. Matthew Leong, Happy Mag

2022 is shaping up as a year to remember for Dylan Cattanach AKA Katanak. After two years of keeping silent about the extras role he scored as bassist Jerry Scheff in the upcoming ELVIS movie by Baz Luhrmann, he can finally reveal his part in it. This role inspired Katanak to create his new single ‘Weigh Down’ and he’s embarking on his first tour. It’s all up from here.
‘Weigh Down’, self-produced by Katanak and recorded and mixed in the studio with Jared Adlam (Caligula’s Horse, Mitch King, Aleyce Simmonds), Katanak again shows his ability to switch up genres and jolt his listeners into paying attention. The confident energy of the music belies the darkness and context of the lyrics.
Katanak says: “A while back I was really feeling like I’d lost my way and was questioning expectations I felt had been imposed on me. It felt a lot like I was falling and just couldn’t get up. I wasn’t the person I was supposed to be and my music didn’t seem to be on track? It took a concerted effort to get over this and Weigh Down was a cry of frustration that helped me verbalise how I felt.”
A chance sighting of an audition request for musician’s in South East Queensland led him to the role of Jerry Scheff in the Baz Luhrmann biopic ELVIS. Working with such talented musician’s and playing in Elvis’ TCB band made me realise how much I loved music and that was the turning point I needed to start writing again.
The result of that is ‘Weigh Down’.
Katanak received grant funding from Arts Queensland for a regional Queensland tour, heading to Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Maroochydore and Toowoomba, finishing up in Brisbane. Katanak says “Without their help I wouldn’t be able to include as many locations as I have on the tour and this opportunity will allow me to play and meet many more local bands and musicians than I otherwise would have.” Katanak is really keen to explore Queensland and meet lots of locals along the way. “Life’s been pretty tough for regional musicians so I’m keen to be getting out and playing with them”.
With plays on major stations including Triple J Unearthed, Double J Radio, ABC Radio, BBC Introducing Radio Solent (UK), BBC Radio nan Gaidheal (Scotland), Amazing Radio (both UK & US) among others, Sunday’s video clip added to rotation on MTV Upload and collecting praise from Livewire AU, Music is My Muse and Happy Mag, he’s definitely one to watch in 2022.
He’s already starting production for his next single with Matt McGuiffe of Ivey fame.
Katanak’s music reflects his wide-ranging influences of inspiration: The 1975, The Wombats, 5SOS, Circa Waves, Coin, New Hope Club, Two Door Cinema Club

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
