Armed with an incredible set of brand new arrangements and backed by a string quartet, KATE MILLER-HEIDKE is bringing her classically-trained vocals and alternative pop sounds to venues around the country in early 2018. KATE will perform in some key regional theatres like Bendigo, Wangaratta, Gosford, Wollongong and Wagga Wagga as well as some special metro city concerts along with major summer festival appearances. See full tour dates and ticketing information below. Tickets are on sale now.
A dynamic artist straddling the worlds of pop, folk and opera, KATE MILLER-HEIDKE has spent the last year performing a suite of her songs with symphony orchestras around the country to huge acclaim, winning the Helpmann Award for Best Australian Contemporary Concert. KATE’S performance with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra was captured and released as a new album, ‘Live At The Sydney Opera House’, which was nominated for an Best Classical Album at this year’s ARIA Awards.
Now KATE will take a new musical combo on the road, adapting many of her orchestral pieces into new arrangements that combine her unique vocals and alternative pop sounds – as well as the incredible guitar skills of long-time collaborator Keir Nuttall – with the classical stylings of a string quartet. Audiences can expect to hear exciting new versions of some of her most beloved songs, as well as surprises from the back catalogue. There will be adaptations of songs from her opera ‘THE RABBITS’, as well as a sneak peak of some new material, as KATE road-tests songs for her next album.
As well as the regional shows noted, KATE will also perform at major festivals including the Woodford Folk Festival. Headlining the popular Twilight At Taronga concert series on Sydney Harbour, and Zoo Twilights at Melbourne Zoo, supported by talented newcomer Odette, she will also perform at the annual ‘By The Water’ concert at the National Museum Of Australia in Canberra.
Audiences in Fremantle, Cairns and the Gold Coast will be able to see KATE perform with her string quartet at some very special – and completely free – outdoor concerts. KATE will headline the “One Day In Fremantle” community celebration in Esplanade Park Fremantle, and appear in Cairns and the Gold Coast at Festival 2018 as part of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

KATE will also finally take her orchestra show to Adelaide, performing with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra at the Adelaide Town Hall as part of the Adelaide Festival. And for the first time she will take her orchestra shows out of the capitals, performing with the Toowoomba Concert Orchestra at QSU.
KATE MILLER-HEIDKE is an award-winning singer-songwriter with what the Border Mail described as “the finest vocals in Australian music”. She has released four studio albums in Australia, including the top 5 albums ‘O VERTIGO!’, ‘NIGHFLIGHT’, and ‘CURIOUSER’, which spawned the multi-platinum hits ‘THE LAST DAY ON EARTH’ and ‘CAUGHT IN THE CROWD’. Her songs are stamped with witty humour and poignant insight – always touching.
Beyond her recorded music career, KATE MILLER-HEIDKE has recently made forays into the world of music theatre, composing an opera ‘The Rabbits’ in 2015, which won 4 Helpmann Awards including Best Score and Best New Australian Work. She has recently finished work with Keir Nuttall on composing the music and lyrics for ‘Muriel’s Wedding: The Musical’, which makes its world premiere at the Sydney Theatre Company on 18 November 2017.
Looking forward to the tour, KATE said,
“I’ve spent much of the last year holed up writing ‘Muriel’s Wedding: The Musical’ with Keir, and now that it’s ready to unleash upon the world, I can’t wait to get back on the road – along with some new friends. These new arrangements with a string quartet are so much fun to play, and I’m really excited to perform them for you in some of the most beautiful theatres and locations around the country. See you there!”
Fans can expect a diverse and captivating evening of entertainment as KATE MILLER-HEIDKE around the country this summer.
