“An effervescent glam stop that floats buoyantly along with spirit” – Backseat Mafia
2023 saw the huge success of WA artist Katy Steele’s sophomore album Big Star which received wide-spread support from Double J, including Artist in Residence, Feature Album and landing in the Best 20 Albums of 2023, plus was nominated for Soundmerch Australian Music Prize 2023.
Today she is back with brand-new track ‘Broken’, which has been sitting in the vault for several years waiting to make its long-awaited debut. The latest hit is a preview of what to expect from her upcoming EP set to be released in June.

‘Broken’, originally penned during her time in New York, has been brought to life with help of producer GRAMMY and mixer Tony Buchen (Smashing Pumpkins, Montaigne, Troye Sivan, G-Flip)
Katy Steele reflects on the track’s evolution – “Broken unintentionally has always reminded me of Carly Simon’s classic ‘You’re So Vain’. The lyrics are straight up, a little like myself. It was inspired by some of my personal experiences of heartbreak during my years in New York. Like all my songs though, there tends to be more than one pivotal subject within the song, so I will leave it up to my listener’s own interpretations.”
Katy and her partner GRAMMY will be hitting the road in support of the latest single for a run of intimate shows across Australia, showcasing a stripped back performance of her catalogue.
On the tour Katy says, “This tour is so exciting as it’s a chance for us to really explore my catalogue in a fresh way. Just myself and my partner, reinventing these songs in a refined and sonically distinctive way After the full band tour last year – which was a huge undertaking, it’s nice to hit the road for a few capital cities in some unique intimate venues that lend themselves well to this particular show. I’m really looking forward to playing my new single ‘Broken’ in its new format too!”

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
