Today, Mparntwe and Naarm-based producer, Kaytetye artist and DJ, RONA. shares her latest single, “Be My Medicine” out now via Rose Avenue Records.
As her first piece of new music in 2024, the house-directed palpitations of “Be My Medicine” will have you a longstanding devotee to the enthralling hypnotism of RONA.’s productions. An echoing vocal hook from RONA. repeats, ‘you can be my medicine’ amid arpeggiating synths inflected with acid tinges and swirls. A follow-up to last year’s celebrated single “Aperleye”, RONA.’s return is a dedication to healing entwined with a connection to Country, and the people that soothe and reconnect your path to re-grounding.
RONA. says of the single: “Be My Medicine is a song grounded in place and time. I began writing it in 2022 when people and opportunities were coming into my life that were medicine to me. The song started from some atmos I recorded when I was out bush. In the soundscape, you can hear the day’s first birds and the sound of my fingers scratching on swag canvas as I wake up on Kaytetye Country. The song is about those moments when you lean into spaces, places and people that are healing.”
“Be My Medicine” arrives following the recent release of RONA.’s debut Boiler Room session at Naarm’s sold out Sugar Mountain Festival in January – it features original music created specifically for the set, exploring First Nations experiences across this continent and surrounding islands, mixing speeches and yarns from the Aboriginal History Archive. The set was a taster for fans who came to see RONA.’s return to Pitch Music & Arts Festival on Djabwurrung Country earlier this month, ahead of a performance next week at Sonder Festival on Taungurung bushland on March 29, and her just-announced return to Splendour in the Grass for 2024.

Last year’s release, “Aperleye” saw RONA named an artist to watch in 2024 by the Daily Telegraph, alongside an inclusion for Top 50 Songs of 2023 by Music Feeds and 2SER’s Favourite Music of 2023. The single came in the wake of RONA.’s widely anticipated debut EP, Closure. Closure scored widespread acclaim on release, including airplay from community radio nationally, triple j, Double J and press accolades from the likes of Mixmag, The Guardian and Pilerats. Integral to RONA.’s work, the EP combined storylines grounded in moments between Naarm and Mparntwe of the Central Desert, with Country and place via synths and melodies that pack emotional punch.
RONA. pursued music in her spare time, outside of a career in storytelling and advocacy work for First Nations people as founding CEO of Common Ground. Most recently, RONA.’s work as a Director for First Nations Future has seen the First Nations organisation launch a funding platform that shifts wealth and power to First Nations community-driven initiatives creating intergenerational change.
RONA.’s expansive dance music productions planted her as the breakout artist to watch in 2022. Already having made festival and club appearances alongside Four Tet, Bradley Zero, Leon Vynehall, Jon Talabot and Chaos in the CBD and at Sun Cycle, Strawberry Fields festival, Falls Festival and more during her brief time in the circuit, RONA. launched her debut EP live on tour with RÜFÜS DU SOL alongside fellow support act, Jon Hopkins. In 2023, RONA. made her Splendour in the Grass debut, supported UK duo Overmono on their Australian tour. While most recently, RONA. launched into 2024 with appearances at Laneway Festival, Sugar Mountain Festival and Nooky’s We Are Warriors live initiative, Blak Powerhouse on January 26.
Tune into the latest single from RONA. today, and find soothing comfort in the prolific talents of one of Australia’s best new producers today.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
