Following support from WPRB Princeton (US), triple j, Unearthed, Music Feeds, The Music, Tone Deaf, PBSFM, SYN, Edge Radio, 4ZZZ and more for her singleSee You Laterand its industrial revamp, Naarm/Melbourne-based artist King IV today sharesFreaky, a smoky, four-to-the-floor celebration of one’s innermost idiosyncrasies that marks the second taste of her long awaited to-be-announced debut album.

An irrepressible shapeshifter of a track co-produced by King IV and Thomas Danigo, ‘Freaky’ is an unhinged journey through the haze of a club floor via layers of modulation and interplaying timbres over dynamic build ups, daring us to get in touch with the strangest parts of ourselves – the ones that we may smother or hide from the world, but that ultimately make us who we are.

Having thrilled crowds at Listen Out, Beyond The Valley, Secret Garden, Melbourne Music Week, The Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and more prior to the pandemic, the future-facing artist and “icon” (AAA Backstage) has courted favour from the likes of Red Bull Music and BBC Radio 1; now, having broke a three year silent period of development and discovery towards the end of 2022 with ‘See You Later’ (a rallying cry for connection with your hedonistic impulses) she continues to lead us deep into her most spectacular, high-concept era yet.

King IV says of the track, “Freaky embraces our innermost, last, and incomparable uniqueness. Your true nature is primal, instinctive and motivated by the dark grounds of the unconscious. You are at heart, at essence, wholly unusual. You are by nature a type of freak. To recognise this sacred character of your true nature, you need to abandon, or more properly reject, the grey and normative world. You need to be the insane core, the insane heart, at the center of the universe. I claim, if you are able to fully embrace your inner and insensible freak, the world will start to make sense.”

Winning over legions of fans and industry admirers alike, with passionate support for singles like ‘We Can Get It’ (2017), ‘Basic’ (2018) and Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition finalist ‘Bump’ (2017) via acid stag, Stoney Roads, Cool Accidents, The Interns, Wonky Sensitive, Eat This Music and more, King IV’s bombastic sound has also found many a home with editorial streaming playlists, climbing into the Australian Viral 50 more than once. Her global appeal has also secured vast airplay, from Australian community radio like FBi Radio, JOY, 2SER and more to FM stations in the UK, US and beyond; also earning her the title of ‘Artist to Watch’ via two more national online tastemakers, Purple Sneakers and Pilerats. Seamlessly finding and carving out her own niche, King IV has worked with and alongside artists like The Kite String Tangle, Kira Puru, LUCIANBLOMKAMP and Moonbase to name just a few. Currently in rehearsals for an explosive new evolution of her monster live show, King IV promises more of her trademark “spine-tingling” music to come.
