Self-recorded within an old refrigeration unit comes Kitten Heel’s electric debut EP, Heal, headed by the sharp lead single and video, “Dancing Girls.”
Written and self-recorded during 2016, Heal is an eclectic mix of songs that deliver disco grooves with rock n roll grunt. The opener “Dancing Girls” is a short and sharp piece, stacked with jangly guitars, wobbly synths and swelling chorus’. Juxtapose this to “Coat”, a slow driving trip hop beat topped with spoken word and elegant lead guitar. “Book” sees the use of funk arpeggiator and shiny synth leads while“ism” is a spaced out, riff heavy banger – reminiscent of early Pond.

Conceptually, lead single “Dancing Girls” deals with the social acceptance and self-doubt. The protagonist views the camera like a mirror; she readies herself for a social occasion. This mundane task is entwined with frustration and violent cuts to a darker strobing atmosphere. This being her twisted psyche- she dances and grieves in the dark. She dances like the dancing girls.
Hailing from the northern suburbs of Wollongong, Kitten Heel is the recording project of Jourdain Vitiello and Jareth Leslie- Evans. Since Heal’s creation the pair have been hard at work on a larger body of work, as well as the live show. Now a five piece, the band’s use of synthesisers and live drums has taken the material a step further. Punk in its aesthetic, the sound is tight, loud and expansive. The Kitten Heel maiden voyage has arrived, you’ll want to be on board.
