New Zealand’s NO CIGAR has been riding high on the success of the band’s recently released album THE GREAT ESCAPE, with the record currently sitting at #9 on the Official Top 20 NZ Albums Chart. With six shows scheduled in Australia in February, NO CIGAR shows no sign of slowing down. Take a look at the captivating new video for the track Father Of Mine’ below.
NO CIGAR’s recently released sophomore album THE GREAT ESCAPE has been met with critical acclaim (read the write up in Rolling Stone; chart success (‘Cool’ #14 Hot NZ Singles Chart and ‘Concubine’ #28 Top 200 NZ Shazam Chart) and extensive radio play. Amongst the hype of their recent release, the band’s 2022 debut album BIENVENIDO has reentered the charts, currently sitting at #10 on the Official Top 20 NZ Albums Chart.
After touring overseas, NO CIGAR is back on New Zealand soil and making the most of the Kiwi summer festival circuit, before heading across the Tasman for a string of Australian shows, which will form part of their upcoming eight-date tour. The Australian leg takes in the Gold Coast (Feb 15), Melbourne (Feb 16), Brisbane (Feb 17), Adelaide (Feb 21), Perth (Feb 22) and Sydney (Feb 24).

In the meantime, the quickly rising Kiwi rockers have just delivered a stirring black and white visual for their song ‘Father Of Mine. Directed, filmed and edited by Tim Cotton, it was filmed as a single shot in the Abney Park Cemetery in London. The one-take video reflects how the song came together with NO CIGAR writing the track in “what was essentially one take, with our friend Jono Lee adding bits of wizardry on the guitar.”
“The half-speed video plays into the anticipatory nature of the song; you can sense some sort of epicness is brewing throughout, which manifests in Willy’s performance in both the song and video” explains Arthur.
Upon suggestion from Arthur’s brother, Willy, Tim, Arthur and Tom made their way across town to film before the sun disappeared, as it does quickly in London in mid-November. With only two or three shots at it, the boys backtracked through the cemetery, Arthur guiding Tim (cameraman) to avoid tree roots and puddles, while brother Tom expertly diverted cemetery traffic to avoid corrupting the shot.
NO CIGAR have quickly risen in the ranks of the New Zealand music industry as a band to watch. After recently releasing their debut album BIENVENIDO in September 2022, the band have gone on and played at some of New Zealand’s most exciting music festivals and sold out New Zealand and Australian tours over the last summer. The band is just back from touring the northern hemisphere, playing headline shows in the UK and Europe; their London show selling out in less than a day. While across Europe they have sold more than 1000 tickets across four shows. Their track record has amassed over 6 million streams on Spotify alone and gained a monthly listenership of 181,000+ fans.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
