Today, Gomeroi rapper based in South Sydney’s Maroubra Bidjigal Land, Kobie Dee announces his debut EP, Gratitude Over Pity arriving later this year via Bad Apples Music. Accompanying the announcement, Kobie shares his latest single and video, “About A Girl”, which will feature on the EP.
As one of Australia’s brightest up-and-coming hip-hop acts, Kobie Dee shares an unfiltered and unwaveringly sharp-witted track, diarising the dynamics of intimate relationships co-mingled with the devastating impacts of substance abuse and addiction. Produced by Papertoy and Magic Nic, a low-end looping hum interlaced with deep kicks and a hissing snare, provides the backdrop for Kobie to share his incredibly moving story, first penned four years ago, aged 19.

Accompanying the track, is a cinematic-like video directed by Joseph Plumb from South Home Creative. Multiple characters speak back Kobie’s lyrics on screen, distilling the realness and impact in every word, Today’s visual accompaniment adds another dimension to Kobie’s storytelling talents, driving home deeper meaning and reflection of the single’s heartbreaking narrative.
As evidenced from a flurry of viral singles and hard-hitting releases, Kobie Dee’s incredible gift for storytelling is heard throughout his debut EP Gratitude Over Pity, coming soon via Bad Apples Music. Written across a four-year period, the result is Kobie’s pen-to-paper journey, thematically encapsulating how real-time events and inspired moments have helped uncover a perspective of gratitude and appreciation towards the present through a lens of dedicated optimism.

Since 2018, the 23-year-old MC has found unique connection with his peers and audiences across Australia via effortless flows, a precise execution, and visceral storytelling that connects deeply with all who listen. Kobie was quick to find a loyal following as his first official singles, “Right Now” and “This Life” captured the attention of fans and industry heavyweights alike, acclaim which was soon amplified when he debuted his most successful single to date “Jody” for triple j’s Bars Of Steel. The single has since clocked 1.1 million views across platforms and over 3 million Spotify streams and climbing, reminding audiences nationwide of Kobie’s innate lyrical gifts, which was further solidified by follow-up single “Still Standing” feat. Liyah Knight. Transmitting his authenticity on stage, Kobie’s live show takes his talents to new levels, having performed across stages including Yabun Festival, Yo MTV Raps, Oxford Arts Factory, Inside Sets, NAIDOC Week’s 2019 Block Party, Better Daze, Sydney Festival and the Sydney Opera House as part of Briggs’ Bad Apples House Party for Vivid LIVE 2019.
Kobie Dee has long dedicated himself to working within his community, deeply engaged via live performance and youth mentoring programs, where his advocacy efforts towards systemic change to help reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal young people in custody and improving young people’s mental health access, is inspiring new generations. Earlier this year, Kobie Dee with the help of Weave Youth & Community Services and Randwick Council, threw a Block Party in Maroubra’s Coral Sea Park, raising more than $40k for Youth Week 2021. Kobie is a Youth Ambassador for Weave Youth & Community Services and Just Reinvest NSW.

AMNPLIFY – JC
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
