Australia’s own musical chameleon, pop prodigy Kota Banks today releases a remix package of her critically acclaimed EP SWEET & THE SPICE via Sony Music Entertainment Australia.
The remix package features re-imaginings by an eclectic group of heavyweights – including Sydney’s own Ninajirachi and UK based producer KG – taking the diversity of the original EP to a whole new level.
Kota’s frequent studio collaborators ChunkyLuv and Cam Nacson also rework EP tracks, showcasing the endless potential of Banks’ songwriting across four tracks.
“I’m so excited to be releasing a remix package,” says Banks. “I feel like SWEET & THE SPICE is the perfect project of mine to do this on, because this is a project celebrating flavours and different interpretations of music. I’m super in love with all these remixes, I listen to most of them just as much as I listen to the originals, so I really hope people like them.
“I chose the artists to remix because I think each is at the forefront of their genre, absolutely killing it. Ninajirachi IS dance music, KG is the queen of rhythm and UK funky, ChunkyLuv literally bleeds RnB and Cam Nacson pretty much taught me how to write acoustic music. To me this remix package features a diverse range of musicians, the common thread being their talent and ability.”
The SWEET & THE SPICE EP released in late July, offered different moods and genres for any palette and heralded the next evolution for an unstoppable artist. The remix package builds on this genre-hopping ethos.
“‘Never Sleep’, the Ninajirachi remix is everything the party region of my brain wanted,” says Banks. “She talked about remixing this song from the second she heard it, and I knew she’d do something ridiculous, fun and clubby, which was a vibe in the original that had the potential to be brought out by the right artist. I love everything she does and naturally I’m in love with this too.

“The ‘Yes’ remix is an acoustic version – but it definitely is a new arrangement. I worked on bringing out new elements of the song with Cam Nacson. He’s my favourite and go-to collaborator for anything heartfelt or acoustic!
“‘Never Sleep’, the RnB version by Chunkyluv, was how the song actually started. In an Instagram “Behind the Song” video, I explained to everyone how the song came about and played them the original demo, which was a super down-tempo, sexy vibe. My fans seemed to really want it, and so I had to give it to them. Chunky and I jumped back into the studio to finish and finesse, but it’s the RnB song I’ve never had! I love it just as much as the original.
“The ‘Let U Leave’, remix by KG was so wild for me to hear – my ears were not expecting that kind of interpretation… its so flavoursome, groovy and I adore all the drums. I never thought ‘Let U Leave’ could sound like this, and that’s the beauty of remixes! She’s doing her THING in the UK and I’m super honoured that she’d jump on this remix.”
It’s been a massive couple of years for the Sydney based songwriter, with the release of tracks ‘20 Missed Calls’, ‘Big Bucks’, ‘Feel Again’ and ‘Italiana’, as well as a high profile collaboration with Norwegian super producer Cashmere Cat on two tracks from his new album PRINCESS CATGIRL (‘Watergirl’ and ‘Without You’) plus work on SOPHIE’s Grammy-nominated 2018 album OIL OF EVERY PEARL’S UN-INSIDES.
At the end of last year, Banks completed the Spilt Milk Australian tour alongside the like of Khalid, CHVRCHES and Tones and I.
Earlier this year, she took on Travis Scott’s ‘Sicko Mode’ for triple j’s Like a Version, receiving rave reviews from music press and listeners alike, with one caller saying they burst into tears after listening to her phenomenal take.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
