One of Australia’s fastest-rising pop acts Kota Banks today drops a new video to accompany her recent mouthwatering delight “Fiorentina” feat. Capo Lee, taken from her surprise mixtape PRIZE out now via NLV Records, and ahead of her own headline shows in September.
Shot by Gold Coast creative Jáen Collective, the clip proudly captures Banks’ Italian heritage and effortlessly cool style. From football field muck arounds to dizzying couch sessions playing FIFA, the video embodies the single’s laidback vibes and celebration of being young and carefree, with a side of the songstress’ trademark attitude and scrumptiously sweet charisma. A cameo from featured rapper Capo Lee shot in London by director Shan Brown lends the finishing touch to bring the track’s addictive vibes to life.
“I told you when I first heard the song was a bangerrrrr”, said Capo Lee upon his first listen of the track in London’s Red Bull studios in a session with the track’s producer, Swick. Since its timely release ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the groove-driven track has already achieved over 220k plays on Spotify, as well as being added to rotation on Sydney’s FBi Radio and featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist.
The video follows the surprise release of Banks’ PRIZE mixtape starring a collection of genre-pushing triumphs, showcasing Kota’s glistening vocals and infectious production from sonic curator Swick. The mixtape followed the thriving successes of Banks’ triple j endorsed pop banger “Zoom” and her first infectious gem with NLV Records, “Holiday”, which since its release has amassed over 1 million streams on Spotify, garnered major support from radio, and been hailed as “one of the best pop songs of the year”. Since the success of her single “Empty Streets” ft. MOZA, which has collected over 18 million streams and saw Banks appear on the Top Five Global Viral Spotify charts, the artist has also climbed the ranks to be named Apple Music’s New Artist of the Week in April this year.
At just 23-years old, Kota Banks has toured nationally with Nina Las Vegas as part of the FOMO Festival trail, supported Southern LA rapper Duckwrth and Australia’s What So Not, alongside securing a publishing deal with Mushroom and signing with the esteemed New World Artists. Banks continues her business of breaking boundaries and rethinking the Aussie pop genre, with a string of headline shows throughout September. Kicking off at Brisbane’s Big Sound, she will make her way to Adelaide’s Cats @ Rocket Bar on September 7, before hitting the Workers Club in Melbourne on September 14 and OAF Gallery in Sydney on September 15.
