Following widespread airplay across Australian community radio, Borneo-born, Meanjin/Brisbane-based artist, producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and DJ LÂLKA shares her glitchy, effervescent new club track ‘Lilith’, with a local show in her hometown to follow the release on April 6 – more details below. Along with previous single ‘What If We Kiss To Break The Tension?’, the track is a taste of the future-facing artist’s as-yet-unannounced debut mixtape, and is currently in A rotation with FBi Radio, with further support from JOY, SYN, 2SER, 4ZZZ and many more.
Produced, written, mixed and performed by LÂLKA herself – as with all her works – ‘Lilith’ (mastered by Becki Whitton aka Aphir) sees the multi-faceted artist’s sparkling vocals soar above intricate yet dance-forward beats, creating an immersive, otherworldly atmosphere ripe for the club. Inspired by the mythology of Lilith, a powerful figure containing extreme multitudes, the single was written in the aftermath of a traumatic relationship breakdown, as she contemplates the loss of status as a kind of falling from grace – while also recognising this has made her stronger, saying: “This song was constructed in the rubble of an intense heartbreak, as I picked the pieces up to construct myself whole again. I am reminded of Kintsugi 金継ぎ – the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with gold. The breakage and repair becomes part of the history, instead of something to disguise.”
LÂLKA’s frenetic stylings, classical training background and golden-eared pop hooks – which she presents through the lens of her own experiences as a queer woman of colour – have earnt her praise from triple j, The Guardian AU, Stoney Roads, NME AU, Purple Sneakers, Pilerats, Futuremag Music, Mixmag Asia and many more, also appearing on DSP playlists like the Australia Viral 50, New Music Friday AU & NZ, and Fresh Finds: Hyptronix.
Described as an “innovator” with music NFTs in Australia (The Chainsaw), through the release of ‘What If We Kiss To Break the Tension?’ (2022), LÂLKA set herself apart using blockchain technology as a form of problem-solving, directly sharing her successes with her audience, with the NFT editions selling out and a subsequent add to Spotify’s editorial Hyperpop playlist. LÂLKA originally shared ‘Lilith’ in NFT format as digital pressings via Serenade, which sold out in under 16 hours, with unlockables including remix rights for the collectors, one-of-a-kind digital artwork, and access to her as-yet-officially-unannounced mixtape’s launch party in June.
With appearances at Melbourne Fashion Festival, Laneway (Bris), FOMO (Bris), BIGSOUND (2019 and 2022 – with The AU Review describing her live show as a “sensory spectacle”) and at Charli XCX’s 1999 Party already under her belt, LÂLKA’s debut EP The Way Music Looks (2021) featured contributions from fellow electronic boundary-pushers Ninajirachi, Oh Boy, Donatachi, MUKI and BRUX, followed up by her Euphoria EP (2022) with features from Chaii, Evangeline and Bopcorn – with the latter being her first physical release, which also sold out. A relentlessly community-minded artist, LÂLKA has also appeared on releases by Feels, Donatachi, and more, as well as sharing stages with Genesis Owusu, Ninajirachi, Kota Banks, Haiku Hands, and Your Girl Pho to name a few.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
