LANEWAY FESTIVAL
Wraps Up in Adelaide, Melbourne & Sydney;
Brisbane and Fremantle This Weekend!
Laneway Festival is in full swing with the festival kicking off in sunny Port Adelaide over the weekend. Special mentions to Slowdive, Dream Wife and Shame who played their first ever Australian shows, Anderson .Paak and The Free Nationals who delivered a perfect sunset slot, and ODESZA who debuted their infamous drumline to our shores. Listen back to live sets from Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, ODESZA, Bonobo and more all throughout the week on triple j.
Melbourne and Sydney reminded us why Laneway is more than just a music festival with the introduction of the Royal Moyle food pairings, and took audiences back to the festival’s humble beginnings with the new addition of Block Party, a festival within a festival.
In 2018, Laneway Festival also joined forces with Music With Mates in Melbourne, a project dedicated to connecting young new migrants in Melbourne with their music community. Seven migrants from Syria, Pakistan, China and Malaysia joined the festivities, for some it was their first music festival. Read more about MWM here.
One weekend in and it’s clear that the love between the artists is real. The Free Nationals formed a judging panel side of stage at Mac DeMarco in Adelaide, Mac DeMarco and Alex Cameron performed arm in arm in Melbourne and Anderson .Paak made a surprise guest appearance with TOKiMONSTA in Sydney.
The festival continues in Brisbane and Fremantle this weekend. Be sure to check out a special exhibition in Brisbane titled ‘Everybody Deserves A Home’ by Luke Henery of Violent Soho that aims to highlight the plight of homeless people and refugees, as well as festival pass outs in Fremantle giving punters access to Bather’s Beach and festival surrounds from 11AM to 4PM.
