“(‘Lalala’) is a hip-hop collaborative masterpiece” – gems & secrets

One of the most innovative musicians of his era, Canadian hip-hop artist bbno$ heads to Australia for the very first time in 2020.

bbno$ (real name Alex Gumuchian), blurs the lines between rap, electronic music and anything else he can get his hands on. He’s a master collaborator, featuring on viral hits with Yung Bae (Bad Boy’), Yung Gravy (Whip A Tesla’) and more; he’s a relentless creator and a bona fide room-filler.

With two albums already released – 2018’s bb steps and 2019’s recess a third on the way, and Gold pop anthem Lalala’ with Y2K under his belt, bbno$’s story is a true testament to the potential of self-promotion. His unrelenting work ethic along with his out-of-the-box creative approach and tenacious charisma demonstrates that there is still space for independent boundary-pushing artists in today’s saturated music market.

Special guest Arno Faraji will also perform. Praised as the winner of triple j’s Unearthed High in 2017, Faraji’s “raps crackle with intelligence and electrifying attitude.” Recent collaboration with Remi & Sensible J Bless (What It’s Like) serves as an insight into Faraji’s vibe-filled show, racking up over 1 million streams on Spotify.

COL3TRANE

“… contains real ambition… The Fruits’ is evidence that you simply cannot ignore Col3trane.” – Clash

“On “Chemicals” and “Fear and Loathing”, his verses are silky smooth, drifting effortlessly into beautiful crescendoes before floating us back to softer, soulful moments. “Movie Star” shows his ability to perfectly switch between smooth R&B and melodic rap… Every track is built around a rhythm that ushers you on, dragging you through immaculately-produced instrumental layers and impressive lyricism.” – The Line of Best Fit

Once dubbed ‘North London’s answer to Frank Ocean’, UK hip-hip prodigy Col3trane makes music that is a perfect synthesis of soul, R&B and ribcage-rattling production.

Raised on the songs of Motown, David Bowie, Prince and Michael Jackson, Col3trane developed his own taste early on. It was inevitable that he’d end up making music himself; a lifetime of influences was bubbling under and waiting to burst out.

Released in November 2017, the Tsarina mixtape, Col3trane’s debut, garnered praise from critics and tastemakers alike. Follow-up BOOT pushed Col3trane’s unique sound further, taking in sounds inspired by the UK jazz scene.

The release of this year’s Heroine EP, which features Goldlink, Raye, DJDS and Sega Bodega, cemented Col3trane’s standing as one of London’s most differentiated young talents.

Col3trane is a bag of exciting contradictions. His music lives a life of its own; experimental. Passionate, twisted, and unusual but with an undeniable pop appeal. He’s an artist equally at home on the arena stage as he was creating beats in his bedroom trying to capture the sounds exploding in his head. Ask him who his peers are and he can’t answer, putting it in the simple but truest term, “My lane, it’s a new one.”

MAHALIA

“Mahalia’s first visit to Australia was met with voracious enthusiasm… (her) ability to effortlessly flow from spoken word, to rhymes to velvety smooth vocals is stunning” – The Music

“R&B’s new big star has finally arrived… Her melodic, neo-soul style proved popular, especially her more recent hits with their woozy, electronic-tinged edge and more evocative lyricism” – UK Evening Standard

After making waves on her debut Australian visit in January this year, UK singer-songwriter Mahalia returns to our shores with a brand new, critically celebrated album under her belt.

Released in September, LOVE AND COMPROMISE features soul-pop gemsI Wish I Missed My Ex’, ‘What You Did’ with Ella Mai and Simmer’ featuring Burna Boy, and has been praised by NME as “… a stellar debut album filled with intelligently written songs… sees the British R&B star perfect her trademark honeyed sound”.

The alt-R&B/soul singer counts Ed Sheeran as one of her fans, a tweet, duet video, and support slot rallying fans early in her career, and features on Rudimental’s hit, We The Generation’, performing with the group on Later… with Jools Holland.

Her captivating live show has earned her praise the world over, and across countless sold out international headline dates. The raw-but-refined emotion in her songs makes for a deeply personal set, interspersed with stories and admissions.

Topping YouTube’s 2019 #UKOnesToWatch list earlier this year, Mahalia is a star on a huge trajectory.

OMAR APOLLO

“sleek, soulful, heartache-infused love songs” – NPR

“lovelorn songs that reconcile the sultry sounds of D’Angelo, Prince, and Frank Ocean with Mexican soul and traditional corridos” – Rolling Stone

Omar Apollo is heading to Australia for the very first time, performing two headline dates in addition to his anticipated Laneway Festival sets. Today, Omar also shares his Spanish debut ‘Frío’ produced by Omar himself and Kenny Beats. Listen HERE.

A 21-year-old first-generation Mexican-American singer from Indiana, Omar Apollo’s diverse background bleeds into his influences – from The Internet to Smino – to form his unique voice.

After introducing himself in 2018 with his critically acclaimed debut EP Stereo, Omar has continued to ascend as an undeniable talent to watch. Pitchfork recently featured him as a Rising artist, Youtube announced him as part of this year’s Foundry international artist development program, and Late Night with Seth Myers featured the performer on his US TV debut – an energetic rendition of standout track ‘Ashamed’.

From working at McDonald’s and surfing Soundcloud in his spare time, to releasing his first EP in two languages and attracting rave reviews from Pitchfork to The Fader, he’s had a big two years.

Support will come from the 19-year old R&B singer/producer, Stevan. Hailing from Wollongong, Stevan made his incredibly strong debut with his singleTimee and follow up ‘LNT showcasing his lush, soulful vocals and woozy pop undertones.
