POND AT FREMANTLE PRISON

.

POND

.

POND have officially been found guilty…of making some of most killer tracks to have come out of the last few years! YVO and Laneway Presents have decided to put this band behind bars!

Two W.A. icons will come together as Nick Allbrook and his boys (Jay Watson, Joe Ryan, and Jamie Terry) roll back home to the Wild West of Australia, for a night of awesome live music (and plenty of beers!), under the stars at the convict-era establishment that is the Fremantle Prison. You’re invited to come and lay witness, as they smash out their electrifying rock’n’roll, introspective psych, eccentric pop, and general far-outness in an exclusive show this September, as part of their national tour, presented by Laneway.

FREO PRISON: AN UNNERVING PLACE TO “HANG” OUT

.

Of all the venues you could catch POND live, Fremantle Prison would be pretty high on the list of fascinating ones. Everyone whose stepped foot on its grounds will tell you that its a slightly unnerving experience… The iconic, history-rich Australian landmark is not only one of Australia’s Top 10 landmarks, but rumoured to be one of our nation’s most haunted locations. You can’t help but shiver as your surroundings conjure up a system of punishment that is uncomfortably recent.

Built by convicts in the 1850s, Fremantle Prison remained a maximum security gaol for 136 years before being decommissioned 1991. The entire prison is steeped in history – inside, the solitary cells and “hanging room” still remain intact, even deeper is a labyrinth of underground tunnels built by prisoners.  We can’t guarantee you’ll see a ghost at POND, but can say without a doubt, that if you miss this psychedelic gig… it will haunt you for years to come!

POND: HOMETOWN HEROES

.

It’s widely known that POND have one of the loosest strongest live shows around. Dynamic and enthralling, their show’s been called “pure entertainment gold” (San Francisco Chronicle). POND have blown away crowds on tour with the Arctic Monkeys, MGMT and Flaming Lips, and at Primavera Spain, at UK festival Field Day, Coachella, South by Southwest. Back home they’ve blitzed Laneway Festival, Splendour In The Grass and so many more. As you can imagine –  having been been nearly a decade in the making –  their live show has currently ripened to perfection, making this the ideal time to catch the boys live.

POND’s hugely entertaining music spans introspective psych, eccentric pop, electrifying rock’n’roll, and servings of far outness, and has won them praise from the New York Times, Pitchfork and NME, the latter calling them “hottest band in the world”.  For their Fremantle prison performance, the band will play tracks from their killer new madcap LP, The Weather (which Pitchfork has hailed as “a document of a band knocking loudly on the door of greatness”) and are sure to unleash their latest single, Paint Me Silver, a gleamingly alluring song, constructed by Jay around a pitch-shifted sample from Todd Rundgren’s ‘Utopia’. They’ll also belt out winners from their just previous release Man, It Feels Like Space Again, and of course delve deep into their impressive back-catalogue.

On the evening, Pond will be joined by Sydney-based four-piece Body Type, and charismatic West Australian hip-hop artist Reef Prince.

Their hometown show is the second on a national tour this September, that sees the psych-rockers take in every Australian major city, beginning at Adelaide’s The Gov on Friday 15th September, with Perth Saturday 16th September, Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on Thursday 21st September, Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Saturday 23rd September and The Triffid in Brisbane on Sunday 24th September.

Join your Freo friends POND for a night unlike any you’ll experience this year.
