Tassie artist Lasca Dry pokes fun at stereotypes and ironically delivers a social commentary on her latest single ‘Pretty Face’ out today.
Reflecting on the track and her own “pretty face” experiences Lasca says, “Often, for one reason or another, people will put down others they think are ‘pretty’ with the expression ‘not just a pretty face’. I wrote this song ironically, accusing myself of being that ‘dumb pretty girl’: (“How would I know? I’m just a pretty face”.) I wanted to show that regardless of a person’s appearance, their minds can grow and learn, teach, and share, discover, feel, and create with just as much thinking power as any other’s.”
Lasca has also offered up the visuals, playing it up in front of a camcorder as a performative response on how people might perceive her from the way she acts, to the way she looks, leaning in to the “give us a smile” rhetoric.
“The song ‘Pretty Face’ is about being perceived a certain way for how you look. The setting is like an audition exploring the idea of being perceived and how one might try to be perceived.”

Hailing from a small town with a big clock called Ulverstone, Lasca learned young to idolise epic guitar legends. Introduced to Zeppelin by her brother, she attained a moment of truth and could never go back.
But you might be surprised at her genres of choice, given her usually doll-like and sparkly attire to match her sharkfin pink guitar. She may seem cute and sweet, and can be, but make no mistake – she rocks hard.

Honed through years of busking, Lasca found her voice on the street, and often composed songs in the moment, inspired by the passers-by, or wandering thoughts. Clocking up miles across Tasmania, Lasca slowly developed local renown, never saying no to a gig. You name a kind of venue, she’s played it. She has gone on to play at major local festivals, such as Dark MoFo, Junction, Great Escape, Pangea, and Day on the Lawn.
Lasca has supported such acts as Weyes Blood, Paul Dempsey, Sly Withers, Didirri, Luca Brasi, Tim Rogers, Kyle Lionheart, and Davey Lane. And played Venues and Festivals such as The Great Escape, Pangea, Day on the Lawn, Mona NYE and more.
Last year’s release ‘The Ocean’ premiered on triple j Unearthed & gained support from Music Feeds, Rage, Milky, Edge FM, 4ZZZ, MTV.
Lasca Dry is one to keep an eye on in 2023, with the promise of more material in the works and even more shows with her band Rock ‘n Roll repertoire.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
