Expanding on an already packed line-up for 2018, Leaps and Bounds Music Festival continues to bring talented musicians from diverse backgrounds together for ten days of celebration in the City of Yarra.
Taking place between 13 – 22 July, there’s a little something for everyone in this year’s program. You’ll find a showcase of just about any genre: from country to blues, pop, queer, indigenous, metal, hip-hop and much, much more…

Kicking off on the 13th is a smorgasbord of local talent across four renowned venues; Cosmo’s Midnight all ages matinee at The Corner, Glovv and Waterfall Person at the Pinnacle, Penny Ikinger headlining a huge night at the Yarra Hotel and the launch of Go! at the Gasometer featuring Blake Scott (Peep Tempel) + more.
Following this grandiose opening night, the City of Yarra welcomes notable acts including Moon Rituals; Sarah and Mikey Young will be performing MR’s last ever shows, Laura Imbruglia with a free arvo set, Kimbra stopping by on her Primal Heart national tour, funk juggernauts Lake Minnetonka, an album launch in two parts from Tangents, Daniel Elia’s unique instrumental + hip-hop curation, King Parrot playing two huge shows including an all ages matinee and an evening 18+ show, newcomers Porpoise Spit launching their first EP plus heaps more over the ten winter days. All woven around the festivals faithful yearly happenings: the Fitzroy Bowls Club record fair, Rock a Bye Baby, The Standard’s Women of Country and a live broadcast of Acid Country, PBS 106.7FM’s longest running program.
More fresh additions to the program include Flight to Africa and Creme De La Femme at the Evelyn, Muddy’s Blues Roulette meets philly cheese steaks at the Catfish, Star Time’s debut performance will bring improvised instrumental funk to the Fitzroy Bowls Club, award winning actor, musician, storyteller and local Aboriginal elder Uncle Jack Charles graces Saint Charlie bar with his vast repertoire, Cumbia LUNAR at the Night Cat celebrating all things Colombian Independence and moon landing and an all-ages family-friendly day gig in Schoolhouse Studio’s Playtime.

These new additions complete the 2018 line-up, joining the likes of Dijok at Laundry Bar’s Girls to the Front, Anna Scionti at The Rainbow, Emilee South’s cabaret Femmes on Fire, Women of Country, Our Ting – a special Yarra Youth Services all ages gig featuring Lady Banton, and all the tastiest Grime, Hip Hop, Trap, Afrobeat and Dancehall Grumpy’s Green can handle.
Queering the Pitch: Music from Beyond the Binary and Queer. Here. will be taking place at Johnston street’s finest Fitzroy establishments – Hares and Hyenas and the Old Bar respectively. Just down the road in Collingwood, Leaps and Bounds annual outdoor event Smith Street Dreaming will celebrate aboriginal culture and history with MC Leila Gurruwiwi, Dave Arden & Band, Benny Walker, Birdz, Alice Skye, Indigenous Hip Hop Dance Projects, and Djirri Djirri Dance Group.
