About ‘Red’

We all have two sides of us: the light and the dark. Not only are they both normal and natural to embody, but they’re necessary for us to fully experience what it means to be human.

Despite this inner knowing, we can feel a pressure to only project and accept our light, and when we do, the darkness we hide inside of us begins to manifest into demons. But instead of leaning into this tendency and continuing to bury the darkness within, Avalon Kane and Stu Patterson show us what it can feel like to not only acknowledge our demons, but care for them as an extension of ourselves in their new track, Red.

Red begins with a panning, pulsing synth that reflects the spiral of rumination that our inner-demons can reel us into. Stu’s voice enters, delivering an almost psychological lullaby that soothes and rocks these demons to rest… but it’s only temporarily effective.

The longer the darkness is suppressed, the more it intensifies. As it bubbles to the surface, the track and vocals intensify until they reach their boiling point. At that moment, the song bursts open into wide layers of synths, vocal harmonies, and haunting effects, reflecting the cathartic flush of red that stains our eyes and cheeks when we finally allow ourselves to fully feel, accept, and release our demons.
