Red Bull Music Festival will land in Melbourne this October 15-20 for an unmissable week of events, workshops and talks that celebrate artists new and established, creating a truly unique adventure in music discovery.

Across 6 days and 9 venues, Red Bull Music Festival uncovers Australia’s thriving new guard, so you won’t miss your next musical hero. From curated live sets with Sampa The Great and Baker Boy, to an open air hip-hop party featuring BAS, Joey Purp and a who’s who of local heroes, a future afro-caribbean jam and an all-night 1800-DOOF club adventure – there’s plenty to explore and discover.

Red Bull Music Festival Melbourne arrives on Tuesday, October 15 for 6 days of talks, workshops and a live show in collaboration with Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS). Founded by Robin Fox and Byron J Scullin, MESS is a dedicated working space for electronic sound. Across the week, MESS reveal a world-class collection of historically epic instruments, and knock down the barriers between artists and their tools. Led by a pool of local and international talent, Red Bull Music Festival Melbourne: Synthesis will expand your understanding of analogue culture.

On Friday evening, Zambian-born, Botswana-raised Sampa The Great performs live from The Forum in the wake of her new album The Return, alongside pioneering South African artist, Thandiswa Mazwai. Multi-award winning, Thandiswa Mazwai visits Australia for the first time following a succession of hit-selling records and world tours, taking to the stage alongside the AMP-Prize winning Sampa The Great and rising acts Dallas Woods, Genesis Owusu, Krown and Mwanjé for a night of divine expression through poetry and rhyme.

Later into Friday night, arrives the third and largest return of Red Bull Music Festival’s 1800-DOOF to date. A choose your own nighttime adventure, four of Melbourne’s most trusted purveyors in club culture: Crown Ruler, Animals Dancing, LEFAG and Novel unite to program four venues, Glamorama,The Gasometer Hotel, 24 Moons and 229 Queensberry St from late night until early dawn. From the Gasometer with Crown Ruler, Detroit techno legend Terrence Dixon appears live alongside London’s Steven Julien aka Funkineven, and Amsterdam’s Ruby Savage. From 24 Moons, Animals Dancing invite Canadian Hashman Deejay and London’s John T. Gast to the booth, while Novel see Chicago deep house pioneer Chez Damier and Parisian veteran DJ Deep take the reins. LEFAG take over 229 Queensberry St with Sweden’s Dinamarca of the Staycore collective, and Fade to Mind signed New Orleans DJ, Leonce. Meanwhile, trusted locals DJ JNETT, Otologic, Toni Yotzi, Kōtare and more join in the mix to share their newest selects, making this one almighty 1800-DOOF to remember.

The following day on Saturday, October 19, experience a new class of hip-hop live from Melbourne’s Golden Square Car Park at Come Through, headlined by New York via Paris’ BAS and Chicago’s Joey Purp. The first artist signed to J.Cole’s Dreamville imprint, BAS will be showcasing his second project, Too High To Riot, while rising flame and Chicago lyricist Joey Purp appears off the back of his acclaimed LP, QUARTERTHING. The two emcees lead a day-to-night open-air session of blended hip-hop, supported by former Red Bull Culture Clash champion and Mixpak member Jubilee and local heroes, Kaiit, Kwame, B Wise, Jesswar, JessB, DJ Klasik and DJ BABYMAMA. Join this sharp set of artists and fresh faces, as Red Bull Music Festival discovers a new generation in rhyme who are amplifying their unique message in every verse.

On Saturday evening, follow the night to CBD club Radar, where Australia’s best forces in afro-beat, hip-hop and dancehall play out till late. Led by Mike Akox, SK Simeon, Shantan Wantan Ichiban, Mai, Aslan and C. Frim, experience the definitive rhythms and Caribbean-founded sounds that have long been bubbling up and continue to fire today’s dance floors.

Closing the 6-day affair, will see one of Australia’s brightest rising stars and role models, North East Arnhem’s Baker Boy, lead a dynamic night of music and dance at 170 Russell with some of his favourite peers. A gifted and award-winning rapper and dancer behind tracks like “Cloud 9”, “Black Magic” and “Mr La Di Da Di”, Baker Boy will premiere a new work with surprise guests, alongside live sets from Electric Fields, Rebecca Hatch and DRMNGNOW.

Don’t miss being at the inaugural Red Bull Music Festival Melbourne this October, bringing together the newest and brightest talent for music lovers and curious minds to discover, all week long.
