Today Melbourne-based producer/songwriter Luboku (Luis Kennett) shares his new single ’50 Days’, once again showing his versatility as a dynamic, electronic artist. Already receiving the tick of approval from EDM.com and KCRW’s Travis Holcombe plus a feature in Spotify’s New Music Friday AU & NZ playlist, its skittering, upbeat production and heartwarming vocals mark Luboku as a rising new talent on the local scene.

Of the track, Luboku states; ‘The initial demo of 50 Days came out fast and fully formed, but a few weeks later when I revisited the track I wanted to change it. I went through about 4 completely different versions but in the end it was that first draft that I decided to go with, because it felt the most honest. It’s funny how the process of writing the song mirrors the meaning behind it – 50 Days is about trying to work through a feeling you’ve been sitting with, and I think constantly changing the song was my way of processing that feeling.’

The new single comes alongside news of his signing to one of Australia’s most reputable labels, etcetc – the home to artists like PNAU, Fever Ray, Digitalism and Bearcubs. The label will be releasing his debut EP The Surface on November 23, shortly after his appearance at this year’s Electronic Music Conference in Sydney. Having supported the likes of Willaris. K, What So Not and Petit Biscuit throughout 2018 the conference will be another great opportunity for the artist to showcase his electric live show.

ABOUT LUBOKU

Luboku is no average-sounding affair. He creates deep, shadowy production – a swirling haze of harmonies, marked with dark and brooding melodies – crafted into tracks that are at the same time uplifting and melancholic.

His debut release was a three-track EP At Dawn with NZ-based collaborator Hosaia in 2014. Luboku took charge of production, crafting a sweeping, delicate bed of music with Hosaia laying down vocals. Led by the single ‘Set to Go’ the At Dawn EP reached in excess of 50,000 streams in its first week, with Indie Shuffle noting it as containing “a strength and confidence well beyond most acts debuting their work together”. The release of the EP ignited something within 20-year-old Kennett, something he needed to pursue.

The following months were spent in the confines of his studio, refining a sound and recording in every spare moment. He wrote and he produced and he recorded, ideas overflowed onto new projects, but new projects also sparked new ideas – so he would tear it up and start over. It was a cycle – a gruelling two-year cycle that at times would become all too tiresome – but a cycle he needed to go through, one from which his new solo project would materialise.

Luboku’s debut solo single ‘The Surface’ was released in late 2017 – the first single from his current body of work, and became the title track from his impending EP, The Surface. His euphoric recent single ‘Without You’ then saw support from around the world – with the likes of XLR8R andIndie Shuffle giving it their tick of approval. The track also put him in the sights of Triple J Unearthed, who selected him as their Feature Artist around the release. Another third single followed, with ‘None of You’ showing a deeper, more sensitive side of Luboku.
