Boutique Australian indie label Double Drummer’s newest signing,17 year old Lucy Parle from the NSW Central Coast, took out first place in the International Songwriters Competition (ISC) winning the TEEN category with her song ‘Back Up’.
The ISC is the world’s largest songwriting competition, with over 23,000 artists entering in 2020 and included Coldplay, Dua Lipa and Tom Waits on the judging panel.
Lucy was in good company, with other category-winning Australian artists including Birds of Tokyo, Mia Wray, Mia Rodriguez, Golden Features, The Presets and Merci, Mercy.
At just 17 years of age and currently completing her final year of high school on the NSW Central Coast, Parle is a gifted storyteller and rising star. Her distinctive sound sits at the intersection of folk, pop, indie and alt-country.
Lucy is a self-described lover of honest and confessional lyrics. Her raw acoustic textures carry a natural breeziness that will resonate as much to fans of Amy Shark and Vance Joy through to Taylor Swift. Her previous single Crayon Sun garnered glowing reviews from triple j Unearthed.

The label’s Edward Prescott commented: “Lucy has such a rich, natural melodic sensibility as a songwriter; plus she’s got a brilliant work ethic and is highly prolific. She also has a really strong identity, vision and sense of self, particularly for someone so young. We can’t wait for people to hear some of the wonderful songs she has waiting in the wings.”
Reflecting on her recent win and latest single, Lucy added: “Back Up is a special song to me and came pretty quickly. I wrote it about a relationship breakdown and all the emotions I felt when I was trying to get over it. It was one of those songs that just fell onto the paper.
Winning the Teen Category in the ISC really cemented that songwriting is what I’m meant to do. To have Back Up recognised in an international songwriting competition is beyond exciting. It’s a really raw and emotional song that I think people can relate to and I can’t wait for it to be out into the world!”
Her accomplished songwriting has also recently awarded her another win and finalist placement in the Youth category of the Australian Songwriters Association as well as a nomination for ASA Songwriter of the Year (supported by APRA/AMCOS).
‘Back Up’ will be officially released on Friday June 4.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
