In the midst of a global takeover, the track that has dominated airwaves and charts across the world, Luude’s ‘Down Under (feat. Colin Hay)’ receives a video treatment as outlandish as the track itself. With over 95 million streams across platforms, and top ten status in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Germany, ‘Down Under’ has truly turned into a global affair, yet this is an Aussie song at its core with the release of the official video capturing that very essence.
Apropos of the absurdity of the situation Luude’s ‘Down Under’ has created, the clip leans into the hyper-real aspects of Australian culture. Honing back to the decade and generation in which the original ‘Down Under’ was birthed, the clip is set in front of an 80s style beach studio backdrop, featuring a sun-soaked Aussie raver, tomato sauce-topped ice cream, a sunscreen drenched meat pie, and Luude himself. Just as Luude’s rework has recaptured the allure of the Australian culture to fathom a worldwide anthem, the official music video will remind both local and international audiences just why the world can’t help but become engrossed by the extraordinary nature of the land Down Under.
The legend of Luude’s ‘Down Under’ begins with Christian Benson (Luude) in his home studio, attempting to re-imagine a quintessential 80s Australian classic into a drum & bass record, relevant for his festival sets and bass havens. Uploading to his socials, the subsequent response was immense with a clamouring of support to have the track officially released. Catching word of the influx of love for the rework, Colin Hay gave his blessing for the track to be released and even provided a fresh new vocal version to be used.
Fast forward, over 95 million streams later, 150,000 TikTok videos made, multiple playlist covers, Gold certification in Australia, Platinum Certification New Zealand, and top-five placement in Shazam charts in New Zealand (#1), Germany (#1), Austria (#1), Estonia (#1), Belgium (#1), United Kingdom (#2), Australia (#4), it’s safe to say that Luude has a phenomenon on his hands. The track quickly rose to #1 in the New Zealand Top 40 Singles Chart, before going top ten in the ARIA Singles and UK Singles charts, with the track also hitting #1 in the AIR Independent Singles Chart making it the hottest independent record in Australia. Despite only dropping mere weeks before voting opened the track reached #65 on triple j’s Hottest 100 2021, with local radio quickly catching on to the heat ‘Down Under’ was generating. Not limited to being a local affair, the Aussie-centric tune has quickly and emphatically gained traction internationally, being made BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mill’s Track of the Week and Dance Anthem’s Hottest Record before being playlisted by the station among many others. The wave of success the track has had has been picked up by the likes of Billboard, The Mercury, The Industry Observer, The Music, and Stoney Roads, with Luude also featured across The Daily Telegraph, Courier-Mail, and The Advertiser.
Prior to ‘Down Under’, Christian Benson had already carved out an impressive career to date, establishing Luude as a name capable of providing the dancefloor heat and garnering over 30 million streams across tracks such as ‘Right Now’, ‘Sink or Swim’, and ‘Paradise’. Upon signing to Sweat It Out Luude delved extensively into the world of drum & bass which lead to the release of his ‘6AM’ EP which received an influx of support from the likes of triple j, Pilerats, Life Without Andy, This Song Is Sick, and Run The Trap. Proving his versatility Christian Benson also makes up one half of respected electronic duo Choomba, who present the Friday night dance tunes on national broadcaster triple j and has been endorsed by tastemakers such as The Magician, Claude Von Stroke, Richie Hawtin, Claptone, and Riva Starr. On the touring side, the Gold-Coast based artist has quickly taken hold of the local club circuit, becoming an in-demand name across Australia. From there, Luude sold-out shows around Australia and New Zealand as well as festival appearances at Listen Out, Field Day, This/That and Wildlands.
Off the back of the global success the track has had, Luude is set to tour across Australia and New Zealand with dates in Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Christchurch, and Auckland. Of course, in keeping ‘Down Under’ a global affair Luude currently has dates booked across Europe in Belgium at Rampage Festival, Austria for Electric Love Festival, Beach Grind in Estonia, Bassfest in the UK, and Eden in Ibiza.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
