Mason Watts today releases his debut EP ‘The Afterlove’, a collection of songs that found the young Toowoomba artist go from his bedroom studio to writing and recording with some of the biggest song writing names in the world right now.
Inspired by artists like James Bay and Lewis Capaldi, Mason decided he would send a “Hail Mary” letter to the man who worked with those very artists, Edd Holloway. It worked! Mason was soon on a plane to the UK to start working on his songs with Edd in the sleepy English town of Hitchin (just north of London). The result was his debut single ‘Recovery’ and it’s follow up single ‘Sanctuary’. The budding songwriter was on his way.
Mason explains the experience, “At the time I was devastatingly heartbroken, lonely and on what seemed to be the wrong side of the world. Songwriting pulled me out of this head space, even if it was for a fleeting few moments at a time. I constantly found myself chasing that same relief and soon decided to turn my heartbreak into an EP.”
That was 2018. In the years to follow Mason began to hone his craft, working with some of the world’s best producers and writers along the way, including Gladius James (Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato), Andrew Jackson (Dua Lipa, Halsey, James Arthur), Wrabel (Kesha, Ruel, Ellie Goulding), Robby De Sa (The Veronicas, 5SOS), Dylan Nash (Dean Lewis, Gretta Ray) and D.E.L (Nick Delahoyde, Andrew Lambrou).
The result is ‘The Afterlove’ a six track, 19 minute, 41 second immersion into the mind of an 18 -21-year-old Watts, who within those 20 minutes pours his thoughts into music, exploring a young man whose heart has been left in pieces and is terrified to grow up.
“’The Afterlove’ is an inside look into the mind, and heartbreak of my former self,” declared Mason.
Featuring the already released singles ‘Afterlove’, ‘Enough’s Enough’, ‘Sanctuary’ and ‘Recovery’, ‘The Afterlove’ EP brings together new songs ‘Ain’t No Stopping the Show’ and new single ‘She Is Not You’.
“A massive highlight of this EP is the release of ‘She Is Not You’ into the world!” Mason continued “It comes from a raw place for me. I wrote this song about being intimate with somebody but thinking about someone else at the same time. It’s about my emotional headspace trying to navigate that feeling.”
It’s been a time of both self-discovery and learning his craft for Mason Watts over the last three years. Mason said “I’m so happy to have ‘The Afterlove’ released out into the world. It’s been a long journey for me to get to this point and now with the world opening up again I can’t wait to play these songs live for everyone over the coming months.”
In the meantime, fans can connect with Mason via his “Sad Boy Sunday” performances. Each Sunday on his social channels Mason chooses a popular song to turn on its head in his own unique “sad boy” style. But really, can ‘You’re the One That I Want’, ‘Dancing Queen’ and ‘Accidently in Love’ really be that sad? Tune in to find out.

AMNPLIFY – SK
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
