After the recent release of a striking Kate Bush cover, divine Auckland talent Matthew Young today shares his new single “Fix Me Up” as premiered via triple j & DIY Magazine from a forthcoming EP Fruit, out May 25 via Sony Music NZ. To celebrate, Young will bring his dynamic, honey-souled voice to Australian shores for his first string of live shows around the nation.

Kicking off in Brisbane, Young will make his way over to Black Bear Lodge on June 28, before playing Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club on June 29 and Sydney’s The Lansdowne on June 30. The following weekend caps off an impressive debut run with two more shows at Jack Rabbit Slims in Perthon July 6 and Adelaide’s Rocket Bar on July 7.

Another slice of impeccably produced and cleverly layered pop – “Fix Me Up” is Matthew Young at his most affecting and authentic. A slower-tempoed statement of recognisable grooves, resounding synths and echoed guitar chords give way to Young’s deluxe falsetto vocals.

The song opens Matthew’s forthcoming EP Fruit, joining previous cherished singles “Collect”, “Hey” and recent cover “Running Up That Hill”. Flooded with emotion, Young’s re-work of the 80s cult-classic “Running Up That Hill” continued on from summer’s stripped-back “Hey” which has amassed close to 3 million collective streams and nods from Oyster, Hilly Dilly and more. “Hey” was the second consecutive single to deservedly be added to triple j following his earlier, instant track “Collect” where Young took on the production reigns with Josh Fountain (Leisure, Maala) to create his first release after a year hiatus.

Matthew Young says on “Fix Me Up” & the Fruit EP: “I wrote Fix Me Up a million years ago, about being dependent on a lover, like a drug – not always a good thing, not always a bad thing, just a thing we do, as people. I’m very happy to have this body of work completed in entirety with a release date set. These songs were written over the course of a weird time in my life, with a lot of shit up in the air, so it’s good to feel like I’m on solid ground again, with a release. Hope you dig it BBs.”

Now with a stunning live show to be debuted at venues around the country, Matthew Young is set to maintain his position at the forefront of boundary-pushing, emotive R&B – with new single “Fix Me Up”offered to fans as they await his highly anticipated EP Fruit.
