Meet triple j Unearthed’s
RÜFÜS DU SOL
remix finalists…

A few weeks ago, Sydney dance trio RÜFÜS DU SOL gifted us with the stems to their single ‘New Sky’ for triple j Unearthed’s 2019 remix competition. We’ve since been blessed with hundreds of interpretations, each taking the original track and owning it.
triple j Unearthed Music Director, Dave Ruby Howe, says “Getting your hands on the stems for a RÜFÜS DU SOL track is akin to getting the keys to the Batmobile for any emerging producer. So, you can imagine how excited the Unearthed community of artists were to get under the hood of ‘New Sky’ and add some modifications and spoilers of their own.”
Listen to the incredible finalists below…
Kult Kyss (Melbourne, VIC)
Having introduced us to their cyber-goth sound via appearances on The Set and touring with The Presets, Kult Kyss push ‘New Sky’ through a metamorphic microwave of sorts, melting it down into a warped tech-y banger and adding their own ghostly vocals.
Lucalion (Brisbane, QLD)
Brisbane native Lucalion takes the RÜFÜS DU SOL boys to the candy shop on his Porter Robinson and Wave Racer inspired remix, giving ‘New Sky’ an almighty lick before dunking it in sherbet. It’s a PC music sugar rush.
The Nights (Sydney, NSW)
Not only would this remix please deep house doyens RÜFÜS DU SOL but it’d probably make The Nights’ science teachers happy! The Sydney trio whip out the chemistry set, injecting acid and other substances into this seven minute epic.
Tyson Kraft (Melbourne, VIC)
It’s a certified hearthrob moment with RÜFÜS DU SOL’s Tyrone Lindqvist and Tyson Kraft together on the same track. The solo producer’s emotional R&B reinterpretation gives ‘New Sky’ a whole new mood.
Yvng Jalapeño (Brisbane, QLD)
After dropping some impressive heat in our 2018 DMA’S remix comp, the spicy Queenslander came back to the table thirsty for a crack at ‘New Sky’. The result is a larger than life trap banger that absolutely slaps.
Tune in to triple j Breakfast on Tuesday 5 November as we reveal the winner, who will be flown to RÜFÜS DU SOL’s headline show at Hobart’s Regatta Grounds (TAS) to perform alongside the band, as well as supporting acts Willaris. K and Lastlings.

triple j Unearthed – discovering new Australian music
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
