The Seed is the first single from Melbourne Indie Voices’ debut “Live At The Forum” album, recorded live over two sold out shows at the Forum Theatre, Melbourne in late 2019. The track is infused with the energy of the 240 piece choir performing in one of Melbourne’s most iconic live music theatres.
The Seed is a song written by Norwegian songwriter, singer and producer, Aurora. Melbourne Indie Voices released the live video of the track to critical and viral acclaim, with the clip clocking up over 70K views in two weeks and rising.
When Aurora saw the video, she declared: “This is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen with my heart. Yes I cried a little. Yes I peed a little. This is just wonderful. I don’t think I can imagine anything more beautiful than a group of people standing together. Singing a song for the earth. Thank you so much for this.”
Group Singing is an ancient salve for humanities collective consciousness. Across the ages humans have joined in song. To celebrate, connect, and to record history and language. Melbourne Indie Voices is a new breed of choir both non-traditional and left of centre, they perform acclaimed interpretations of their favourite indie artists both at home and abroad. Founded and led by renowned Aussie composers Phia and Joshua Teicher, their work is frequently viral and thoroughly Australian.
Songwriter, composer, arranger and indie darling, Phia is lauded for her luscious harmonies and vivid pop sensibilities. Primarily known for her genre-defying, live-looping show and her masterful use of the African kalimba, She is also the founder and leader of MIV, her pop smarts and affecting choral arrangements have established Phia as a key player in Melbourne’s renowned independent music scene.
Melbourne Indie Voices is nothing like any choir you’ve ever seen before. What started out as a meeting of roughly 20 people in Sophia Exiner’s (who makes music under the moniker Phia) Fitzroy loungeroom back in 2016 has, just five years later, grown to become something phenomenal. featuring 140 regular members alongside a steady stream of new arrivals. Melbourne Indie Voices has performed on radio and TV, during Melbourne Music Week, at the Melbourne Museum for White Night, has collaborated with the likes of Paul Kelly and Paul Dempsey and shared a stage with Ali Barter. Joshua Teicher contributes to the choir’s unique and non-traditional sound by accompanying them on electric guitar.
Audiences always have a real smile on their faces when watching Melbourne Indie Voices performances. There’s something so joyous about a huge group of people singing in harmonies. Our song choices always take people by surprise and we’re not afraid to take some risks. We sang ‘Girlie Bits’ by Ali Barter and ‘Pynk’ by Janelle Monaé at an International Women’s Day event which went down a real treat. – Phia Exiner
Melbourne Indie Voices will be releasing one track a week from their live album which features special guests Jen Cloher and Mark Lang, leading up to the album release on Friday December 4.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
