Gorgeous harmonies and slow burning instrumentation forms the new soundscape that Melbourne outfit Howlite have created on their latest single ‘Orchestra‘. Hypnotising and ethereal in overall sound, ‘Orchestra’ is a strong step forward from the group, led by songwriter and vocalist Alison Thom.
The release of the single comes off the back of successful music released in 2017 – ‘Gothic Romance’ and ‘Saviour’ both demonstrating the finesse and maturity thriving within Thom’s songwriting, as well as the band’s strongly developing live dynamic.
“I’ve wandered into a small bar from the freezing outside world and you’re playing in the corner. I’m pretty happy to take off my gloves, beanie and scarf and sip some mulled something while you serenade us.”– Triple J, Declan Byrne (‘Gothic Romance’)
“Slow moving but heaving with energy and feeling…” – Triple J Unearthed, Tommy Faith (‘Saviour’)
“Glimmers of hope slip through the cracks of the brooding, border-line-folk, but inches-from-pop, as vocalist Alison Thom lifts us up by our all black boots amidst assurances that ‘this is a ritual’.” – Rolling Stone Australia

‘Orchestra’ heralds a new chapter for Howlite, as they anticipate a fruitful year of touring in Australia and abroad. April will see the group perform in their hometown, with a residency set for The Tote providing the perfect platform for Howlite to showcase their new sounds before heading out to Toronto for Canadian Music Week in May.
