Today Metronomy share their long awaited new album ‘Metronomy Forever’. Already receiving critical acclaim across-the-board the release is being hailed as a landmark moment in their career.

Praised for capturing the band’s playfulness and experimentation, it’s also pushing the bar of what to expect from Joe Mount’s creative collective. It comes from a desire to replicate the feeling of listening to the radio, with sumptuous songs of different styles helping lighten your mood: their inimitable electro-pop bangers now complemented by other tone-setting productions. It also reflects Mount’s work on Robyn’s game-changing album ‘Honey’ with recurring themes of love, romance and sex.

To coincide with the album’s release, Metronomy share the brand new video for ‘Wedding Bells’. Directed by Mount’s long-term friend and collaborator Daniel Brereton (the man behind most of the band’s videos for the singles taken from 2008’s ‘Nights Out’ album), it finds Metronomy playing at a house party where a particularly awkward love triangle swiftly degenerates into a frenzied, free-for-all food fight.

Brereton’s visual captures the Technicolor vibrancy and sheer fun of ‘90s music videos from the likes of Sonic Youth and Smashing Pumpkins. Other references include Richard Linklater’s slacker blueprint ‘Dazed & Confused’, the esoteric surrealism of ‘Donnie Darko’ and, in the climactic scenes, a cheeky spin on the Tony Scott / Quentin Tarantino cult classic ‘True Romance’.

Brereton explains, “I got the feeling from Joe that he wanted do something free and fun, so I came up with an idea that didn’t take itself too seriously as a retaliation to the bad news we get every day. I imagined a love triangle where the lead character likes his best friend’s girl and he can’t stop thinking about her – we’ve all been there. It was fun to make something that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, just simple, innocent fun. It takes place at a party, and getting to do a food fight and pillow fight was extremely liberating.”

‘Metronomy Forever’ has been previewed by a selection of key tracks: ‘Wedding Bells’, ‘Walking in the Dark’, ‘Salted Caramel Ice Cream’ and ‘Lately’. They’ve earned A-list support from BBC 6 Music plus airplay from Radio 1’s Annie Mac, Jack Saunders, Clara Amfo and Phil Taggart.

Metronomy are launching the new album with five in-store performances and signing sessions at Rough Trade stores in London, Bristol, Brighton and New York City.

The band begin a UK and European tour next month. Dates in London and Paris both quickly sold out, resulting in the addition of second shows in each city. They’ll then embark upon tours in Japan and South America.
