Milky Chance have been in perpetual motion ever since the release of their star-making debut single, ‘Stolen Dance.’ They have racked up billions of streams, headlined massive sold-out concerts around the world, performed on nearly every late night show, and played iconic festivals from Coachella and Lollapalooza to Bonnaroo and Austin City Limits. But when the COVID-19 pandemic struck and forced the breakout German duo to cancel an entire year’s worth of tour dates, guitarist/singer Clemens Rehbein and bassist/percussionist Phillipp Dausch found themselves right back where they started nearly a decade ago: just two music-loving friends with nothing but time and ambition on their hands.
“If there’s a silver lining to the past year,” says Dausch, “it’s been the chance to take our sound to places we might never otherwise have gone. You can get tunnel vision being constantly on the road, but having a break like this really gave us a fresh perspective on things.”
It’s that boundless sense of freedom and possibility that fuels the duo’s addictive new single ‘Colorado.’ This first fully independent release (on their own Muggelig Records label) is already on the way to being one of the band’s biggest songs ever.
The track now has 25 million global streams and a building global radio story — already Top 10 in Germany, Top 30 in Austria, and making gains in the US (Top 5 AAA and Top 30 Alternative) and Canada (Top 15 Alternative) and has been added to full rotation on triple j. The track is Top 25 on the Global Shazam Alternative Chart and on the Top 200 Shazam Chart in 10 countries.
The acoustic version of a Colorado is the raw version of the song that fans have been waiting for. Milky Chance are known for their original productions that mix indie rock with their electronic, reggae, and folk influences, but this acoustic release takes the song back to its roots and reminds us what Milky Chance’s greatest strength is: spectacular songwriting.
