Melbourne-based indie-pop band MOBS are proud to reveal their debut album ‘Cinema Paradiso’, eleven conceptual tracks of joyous 80’s synth pop, with each song being influenced by a classic 80’s film.

Drummer Matt Purcell talks about the inspiration behind ‘Cinema Paradiso’:“We have always been a huge fan of the 80’s era, musically and cinematically. To gel these two concepts together, we believe it represents our vision within the band.  The nostalgic pop sound that we have put out there is something that we have been working on for a really long time and it’s great that we can branch out into such a broad genre yet still recognise where we have come from”.

With each song written from the perspective of the lead character in each movie, ‘Cinema Paradiso’ is a smorgasbord of nostalgia-laden hooks and deft production. Opener ‘I’ll Be Back’ kicks off with glowing synths and the angelic vocals of lead singer Jordan Clarey.

This leads into ‘Find Another You’ and lead single ‘Big World’, both incorporating massive clap snares and awe-inspiring choruses, influenced by ‘She’s All That’ and ‘Honey I Shrunk The Kids’ respectively.

The bright and glitzy world of ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ explodes out of the speakers in ‘School’s Out’, with zany synth lines and syncopated synth bass. As a whole, ‘Cinema Paradiso’ expands across a myriad of differing tones and storytelling with each track evoking its own visuals and stamp upon the record.

To coincide with the release, the band will perform at the UK’s iconic festival The Great Escape in May, following on from performances throughout China earlier in November 2019. This continues on from a furious touring schedule, which has seen them support the likes of The Maine (USA), Deaf Havana (UK), Never Shout Never (US) and Stand Atlantic.
