A Million Birds and One Stone is the debut album from 19 year old Australian singer/songwriter Nadia Phillips. With an acoustic, folk-rock appeal it features the thoughtful lyrics and musicality that have become a trait of this Melbourne-based emerging artist who hails from Castlemaine.
Since October 2020, Nadia has set a pace with the release of two singles – On Reflection and Your Dark Side – plus EP Sort It Out with her band ‘Nadia and The Girlfriends’. She’s attracted insightful reviews in Australia, UK and Belgium and between lockdowns has performed live with successful shows at venues in Melbourne, Castlemaine and Daylesford including The Bridge Hotel, Bar Open, The Worker’s Club, Theatre Royal, Old Bar and more.
“I had quite a backlog of songs from earlier in the year, so I took the chance to record my first album of 13 songs. It was also perfect timing for me to collaborate with new musicians and artists to extend myself as a recording artist,” said Nadia.
“I worked with prodigious musicians Finn and Jim Inkster to record to the album to tape on their Tascam Portastudio 488 MKII, taking an analog route as a sonic exploration. I learnt a lot from this process!”

Nadia’s vocals and guitar are the backbone of the album. Musicians Uma Dingemans (Stop That Mammoth), Finn Inkster (Finn Quaid), Jim Inkster (Jim Matthew Inkster), Jezabel Furlong (Thistleswitch) and other friends backing with harmony vocals have played and assisted with instrumentation on the album. After recording, the songs were given to Elvis Walsh (00_) who mixed and mastered the album.
Title track A Million Birds and One Stone battles with the transience of time and the inevitability of losing precious moments, Undress examines the fragility and vulnerability of relationships and The Wick is a touching love song that demonstrates Nadia’s craft for weaving together words in an emotive and illustrative way.
“Another thing I was keen to do was to invite my friends and community to submit artworks to the album project, and I’ve allocated one artwork to each track for release. I wanted this album to be very much a collaborative project and these artworks accentuate backstory as well as supporting emerging talent too.”
From the historic township of Castlemaine in Australia, Nadia enjoyed an upbringing surrounded by music, art and nature. Piano tuition from an early age shaped her passion. She has since been playing guitar to write, record and perform. The complications of self understanding and the longing to understand others drive her songwriting.
“I am really looking forward to getting back to performing live again, and sharing these songs to a live audience. There is really nothing more fulfilling!”

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
