to critical praise

“This album draws you in and it makes you feel a part of the experience – the hurt, the joy, even the creation of the music itself. Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats have successfully managed to capture both the unbelievable energy and unadulterated emotion of their live performances, and channel this into a thoughtful, soulful album they should be proud of.” – The Music ★★★★
“Tearing at the Seams more accurately captures the feel of Rateliff’s stirring live performances. There’s a looseness and sense of fun here, perhaps because for the first time the songs were written in the company of his band” – Q Magazine ★★★★
“The Night Sweats’ woozy, loose grooves are hypnotizing and are perfect accompaniment to Rateliff’s gravel-worn rasp.” – Mojo ★★★★

Initial writing and recording sessions for Tearing at the Seams took place in Rodeo, New Mexico where Rateliff & The Night Sweats re-established their dynamic off the stage and in the studio. “For the first record I demo-ed everything up and created most of the parts,” says Rateliff. “This time, I felt like we’ve all spent so much time on the road that we should all go off somewhere. We should all have that experience together.”
Tearing At The Seams is an album that builds on the sound and success of their debut but dramatically redefines what they can do and where they can go next. Produced by Richard Swift (The Shins, Foxygen), Tearing At The Seams is a vivacious and inventive full-band record, with significant contributions from all eight members of The Night Sweats. With familiar elements of garage rock, jazz, folk and even country , these songs are grounded in old-school soul and R&B but are far too urgent for the retro or revivalist tag.
Next week, the band will make their third appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon performing “You Worry Me” on March 12th.
Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats are: Rateliff (vocals, guitar), Joseph Pope III (bass), Patrick Meese (drums), Luke Mossman (guitar), Mark Shusterman (keys), Andy Wild (saxophone), Scott Frock (trumpet) and Jeff Dazey (saxophone).
