To Head Down Under

The man, the myth, the legend Nick Oliveri (QOTSA/Kyuss) returns to Australia this July, teaming up with Russian punk sensations Svetlanas for what will be their first ever joint tour down under.

The latest Australian tour, Nick Oliveri’s third in solo mode after a majority sold out 2016 Aussie tour, will see both acts perform across the country on the back of an already announced Dead of Winter Festival appearance in QLD.  Oliveri will rip out ‘Death Acoustic’ and Kyuss sets with local Aussie bands as well as randomly jumping in on bass with friends Svetlanas, known for their super high intensity live shows.

The veteran performer, who has donned the bass and songwriting pen for such iconic acts as Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, The Dwarves, Mondo Generator and worked with the likes of Mark Lanegan, Turbonegro, Desert Sessions and more, has been called ‘the Lemmy of his generation’, a title 100% true if you’ve ever met the man!  Not many can say they tour as hard as Nick Oliveri.

Nick says of the upcoming Australian tour “Hello… don’t miss Russia’s finest hardcore, SVETLANAS.  Also, I’m looking forward to seeing all of my mates (old and new). Don’t know who I’ll get the honour and great pleasure of smashing some old Kyuss & QOTSA tunes with this time around?!! My last trip was unforgettable. Feels and sounds like Home away from home. Get amongst it!”

As of September 2014, Svetlanas were exiled from Russia due to political views primarily expressed through their music.  Distribution or ownership of Svetlanas’ music within the country is now considered unlawful, seeing the band move to Italy to start afresh.  It was here that they met Nick through Dwarves frontman Blag Dahlia, which subsequently led to a month long residency at L.A’s Whisky A Go Go and recording of their ‘This is Moscow Not LA’ album at Josh Homme’s Pink Duck Studios.

Svetlanas are no stranger to the big stage, lining up for performances at such international festivals as Vans Warped Tour (USA), South by Southwest (USA), Punk Rock Bowling (USA), Rebellion Festival (UK) Extreme Fest (FR) and more, earning praise and respect along the way from such punk and rock heavy hitters like Gene Simmons (“Their music will be listened to by 40 million Americans.”), Jello Biafra (“Olga has quite an unusual voice, kind of like an angry cornered mongoose.”) and The Adolescents, who they partnered with on a split release titled ‘Hot War’.

The band says of the upcoming jaunt “We are really stoked to play Australia for the first time.  We don’t know what to expect but hey you don’t either!  As if that’s not enough, we are very happy to make this Australian debut with our brother Nick Oliveri.”

This will be one of the Punk Rock tours of the year.  Get yourself primed and ready!  Majority shows on sale now with VIP tickets available.  National supports will be announced soon.
