Gold Coast’s premier music industry event, the Gold Coast Music Awards is back for its fifth year, today opening nominations for 2019.
Following yet another outstanding year for Gold Coast music, the Awards will see the City’s rising stars celebrated across eight categories in a spectacular beachside ceremony and live concert that will take place in Surfers Paradise on 2 May, 2019.
“What an incredible year for Gold Coast Music!” said Judging Panel Chair and Conservatorium of Music Director, Donna Weston. “From Fisher’s Grammy nomination, Amy Shark’s sweep at the ARIAs and Hollow Coves European success to the growth of acts like PACES and IVEY, the calibre of artistry coming out of the Gold Coast just keeps getting stronger and stronger.”
With a new category being added to the mix – Musician Of The Year – artists at all stages of their career are encouraged to nominate for what can be a career-changing opportunity.
“EVERY local band should nominate for these Awards! The sheer volume of music buffs you are presented to is worth it alone,” said Jakey D, guitarist of 2018 Live Act of the Year finalists, Electrik Lemonade. “From performing on that massive beachfront stage at last year’s Awards to a BIGSOUND showcase, the Gold Coast Music Awards has undeniably steered us toward greater events and opportunities. With our first national tour under our belts and more than 60 live shows last year, we’ll definitely be throwing our hats in the ring to nab one of those Skull Murphy trophies this year!”
With a Live Music Action Plan now in place and a triennial grant from City of Gold Coast recently announced to transition the Awards to a not-for-profit model, the sector is a priority for development.
“We are ecstatic to celebrate and honour the best in the business at the Gold Coast Music Awards once again this year,” said Division 11 Councillor, Hermann Vorster.“This is a fantastic event that captures the energy, enthusiasm and optimism we have for musical expression here and across the region. I encourage the community to get right behind this year’s awards.”
