New York-based indie-rock act, Navy Gangs, unveil new single ‘Housekeeping’, and announce debut album ‘Poach’, out Friday, June 1 via Dinosaur City Records and Modern Sky Entertainment (USA).
Described by lead singer, Matthew Tillwick as “an ode to [Sydney band] Big White“, Housekeeping was written following a fortnight of the bands touring together back in 2016.
“The band had just spent a lot of time with Big White, and I was listening to them pretty much non-stop when they left the states. One day I started messing around with [Navy Gangs guitarist] Noah’s drum machine, and the song essentially wrote itself. It’s a very nostalgic song, and it being connected to Big White makes it an extra special song for me to play.” Says Tillwick.
Housekeeping recalls the feeling of revisiting a house or apartment you used to live in. “You’ve really made yourself at home”, Tillwick intones on the track.

In 2018 alone, the band has played slots at Austin’s SXSW (where Big White joined them onstage to perform Housekeeping) and toured the east coast of America with Father/Daughter’s Anna McLellan. June will see the band tour album, ‘Poach’, across the States, before a September tour of the record here in Australia.
