Australian singer-songwriter ODETTE ends the year with spellbinding new single ‘A Place That I Don’t Know’ featuring fellow Aussie songstress, Gretta Ray. The track is out now via EMI Music Australia /Caroline International. ODETTE also announces UK and European 2019 tour dates and the release of her highly anticipated debut album ‘To A Stranger‘ on the 8th February 2019. ‘A Place That I Don’t Know’ is the latest instalment from the gifted young artist, following on from this year’s previous critically acclaimed releases ‘Take It To The Heart’ and ‘Lotus Eaters,’ and features Gretta Ray. The single is a further display of ODETTE‘s syncopated, soulful delivery that is harmonised beautifully by Gretta’s dulcet vocal. It is a well-crafted, standout track that sets the tone for her debut album.

On the track, ODETTE explains “‘A Place That I Don’t Know’ is truly about being hurt and feeling isolated from your own home. I wrote this for me and Gretta to duet because her tone truly conveys the emotion I was trying to reach in this song. It’s about yearning for a love that’s let you down and trying to rebuild from something you didn’t even destroy.”

Gretta Ray says, “I am honored to have been given the opportunity to sing on an ODETTE song, after falling head over heels in love with her debut record ‘To A Stranger’. ‘A Place That I Don’t Know’ is yet another song of hers that completely consumed me at first listen… the way that she conveys the emotions evoked by the song’s narrative through what is such a powerful yet equally vulnerable vocal tone gave me full body shivers, and I am just so thankful to have been involved in the making of such an exquisite, special track.”

2018 has been an exciting year for Sydney based ODETTE, having sold out her first ever headline tour of Australia. She also received two ARIA Award nominations including ‘Breakthrough Artist’, and secured an ‘Album of the Week’ nod from the influential taste maker Triple J. Earlier in the year she visited the UK, to give stunning performances at The Great Escape and at her headline show in London at The Slaughtered Lamb.

‘Take It To The Heart’ video premiered with CLASH and has received support from the likes of Idolator, Red Bull UK, 1883 Magazine and Baeble Music.

ODETTE was just 17-years-old when she began working on the bones of what would eventually become ‘To A Stranger’, a bold and confident debut record, brimming with enchanting melodies, sophisticated compositions and lyrical meditations, intermingled with spoken-word poetry on love and life – plucked straight from the heart. She says, “I’ve always been really into writing poetry and that’s kind of reflected in my music.”

‘To A Stranger’ was produced by Damian Taylor, whose previous accolade of work includes Björk, Arcade Fire, The Killers and The Temper Trap. It is an inherently personal record; it’s ODETTE‘s study of herself, capturing every fear and hope she had in her final teenage years before adulthood took hold. Its songs map every scar and heartbreak enacted during what she describes as “the hardest years of my life so far”, and she’s immensely proud of being able to use music to write her way out of that time.

ODETTE explains further, “I’m most proud of the fact that this record exists because I didn’t have 100% faith in myself. And I think one thing this process has taught me is that I’m capable of a lot of things. I think the whole point of writing is to grow as a person. So I think that what started with this album – and hopefully will continue on to my next project – is just growing and changing and experiencing horrible things but also beautiful things.”

With a refreshing take on modern pop music, ODETTE is an exceptional rising talent unfolding.
