#1: Jawsh 685 x Jason Derulo ‘Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)’ – Three weeks into its run on the ARIA Singles Chart, ‘Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)’ by Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo jumps up two spots to hit #1. It becomes the fourth #1 single for American R&B star Derulo after ‘In My Head’ (#1 Feb. ’10), ‘Talk Dirty’ (#1 Aug. ’13) and ‘Trumpets’ (#1 Dec. ’13). It becomes the first #1 in Australia for 17-year-old Josh Nanai from Auckland, New Zealand, also known as producer Jawsh 685. He’s the first New Zealand lead artist to have a #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart in 24 years, and only the third since the ARIA Charts began. It follows Dave Dobbyn with Herbs’ ‘Slice Of Heaven’ (#1 May ’87) and OMC’s ‘How Bizarre’ (#1 Apr. ’96).
#5: Harry Styles ‘Watermelon Sugar’ – After two weeks at #6, Harry Styles’ ‘Watermelon Sugar’ moves to a new peak at #5. Styles’ album Fine Line (#1 Dec. ’19) moves back up from #6 to #3 this week in its 29th week in the Albums Chart Top Ten.
#9: Jack Harlow ‘Whats Poppin’ – In its 13th week in the Top 50, Jack Harlow’s ‘Whats Poppin’ races up 29 spots to #9, cracking the Top Ten for the first time. Its surge comes on the back of a new remix released this week featuring DaBaby, Tory Lanez and Lil Wayne. The single previously peaked at #22.
#12: Blackpink ‘How You Like That’ – K-pop stars Blackpink hit the Top 50 for a second time this year as they release ‘How You Like That’. It’s the first track to come from the quartet’s forthcoming debut Korean-language studio album, set to come out in September. The group charted earlier in the 2020 with their collaboration with Lady Gaga, ‘Sour Candy’ (#8 Jun. ’20). Blackpink made their first appearance on the chart with ‘Kill This Love’ (#18 Apr. ’19).
#23: Guy Sebastian ‘Standing With You’ – Guy Sebastian returns ‘Standing With You’, his first single for 2020. The fourth single from Sebastian’s forthcoming ninth studio album is his first to chart since ‘Choir’ (#7 Jul. ’19), which won Song Of The Year and Best Video at the 2019 ARIA Awards, which he also hosted. It’s Guy Sebastian’s 24th single to appear in the ARIA Top 50.

Albums Chartifacts:
#1: Various ‘Music From The Home Front’ – The multi-artist live album Music From The Home Front holds #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart for a second straight week. The last Australian live album to spent multiple weeks in the top spot was John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John’s Two Strong Hearts, which had a three-week run at #1 in July 2015. The vinyl edition of Music From The Home Front will be released at the end of July.
#4: Khruangbin ‘Mordechai’ – American rock trio Khruangbin make their Top 50 debut with third album Mordechai. The Houston, Texas band previously released the albums The Universe Smiles Upon You (2015) and Con Todo El Mundo(2018). Earlier in 2020 they teamed up with Leon Bridges for the EP Texas Sun. Khruangbin are well known for blending soul and psychedelia influences from different parts of the world including Thailand, Spain and the Middle East. Mordechai tops this week’s ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart.
#7: Haim ‘Women In Music Pt. III’ – Haim score their third Top Ten album on the ARIA Charts with Women In Music Pt. III. The third album from the three American sisters is the follow-up to Something To Tell You (#4 Jul. ’17). It sees them collaborating with former Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmanglij and producer/songwriter Ariel Rechtshaid (Adele, Vampire Weekend, Charli XCX). Haim made their chart debut with Days Are Gone (#2 Oct. ’13).
#18: Gordi ‘Our Two Skins’ – Canowindra singer-songwriter Gordi returns with second album, Our Two Skins. Between Reservoir (#20 Sept. ’17) and her new album, Gordi (aka Sophie Payten) completed her medical studies and worked as a doctor. After taking a break from medicine at the start of 2020, she returned at the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis. The album has debuted at #3 on the ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart this week.
#30: Grey Daze ‘Amends’ – The pre-Linkin Park career of the late Chester Bennington gets explored on the Grey Daze compilation Amends. The album features newly recorded music by the band’s surviving members along with re-mastered vocals from the group’s catalogue. Grey Daze recorded two albums – Wake/Me (1994), and …no sun today (1997) – before Bennington left in 1998, going on to join Linkin Park the following year.
#33: Pop Smoke ‘Meet The Woo 2’ – Pop Smoke makes his posthumous Top 50 debut on the Albums Chart with Meet The Woo 2. The second mixtape from the American rapper features guest appearances by Quavo, A Boogie wit da Hoodie and more. His debut album, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon was released on 3 July and could well feature in next week’s chart.
#40: Bananagun ‘The True Story Of Bananagun’ – Melbourne psychedelic act Bananagun make their ARIA Charts debut with The True Story Of Bananagun. The first album from the Tropicalia/afro-beat-inspired collective comes after two seven-inch singles: ‘Do Yeah’ (2019) and ‘Out Of Reach’ (2020). The True Story Of Bananagun takes out #2 on the ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart this week.

I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
