Singles Chartifacts:
#1: Tones And I ‘Dance Monkey’ – Tones And I notches up a 20th week at #1 with ‘Dance Monkey’, extending her record for longest ever leader on the ARIA Singles Chart. The track has also tied the record for longest-running #1 by a female lead artist in the UK, equaling Rihanna’s 2007 hit ‘Umbrella’ and Whitney Houston’s 1992 classic ‘I Will Always Love You’, with 10 weeks in the top spot.Meanwhile, Tones And I’s follow-up single ‘Never Seen The Rain’ rises one spot to a new peak of #7.
#11: Mariah Carey ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ – Continuing its annual climb towards the top of the Singles Chart, ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ by Mariah Carey leaps nine places but narrowly misses the Top Ten. The track, which was released in 1994 and peaked at #1 in December 2018 is now certified 6x Platinum.
#14: Harry Styles ‘Adore You’ – This week’s only debut, ‘Adore You’ is the third track that Harry Styles released ahead of his new album Fine Line. First single ‘Lights Up’ peaked at #7 in October and spent seven weeks on the chart, while ‘Watermelon Sugar’ drops four places to #32 this week.
#16: Juice WRLD ‘Lucid Dreams’ –Following his untimely death at 21 years of age this week, Juice WRLD’s ‘Lucid Dreams’ re-enters the chart. The track is the US singer and rapper’s biggest hit in Australia, peaking at #8 in July 2018 and spending 11 weeks inside the Top 20 during its initial chart run. Juice WRLD also appears in this week’s Singles Chart at #45 with ‘Bandit’ featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again, and at #49 with ‘Robbery’.
#21: Post Malone & Swae Lee ‘Sunflower’ – After 60 weeks on the Singles Chart, 31 of which were in the Top 10, ‘Sunflower’ by Post Malone & Swae Lee rebounds 15 places. The track peaked at #1 in January and is certified 8x Platinum. Albums Chartifacts:
#1: Cold Chisel ‘Blood Moon’ – Blood Moon, the ninth studio album from Cold Chisel, lands at #1 this week. It is their third #1 album in the ARIA Charts, after Twentieth Century (1984) and The Last Wave of Summer (1998). Cold Chisel had two more #1 albums before the ARIA Charts began – Circus Animals(1982) and Swingshift (1981). It has been 21 years since Cold Chisel topped the chart, and in that time they hit #2 with The Best Of Cold Chisel: All For You(2011), No Plans (2012) and The Perfect Crime (2015). Cold Chisel has ended their #2 streak, and now takes the record for the Australian band with most time between their first #1 and their latest – 38 years from 1981 until 2019.
#6: Camila Cabello ‘Romance’ – With her second studio album, Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello hasn’t quite managed to repeat the success of her debut, Camila, which entered the chart at #3 in January 2018. Romance was preceded by six singles, including ‘Liar’, which peaked at #31 and was the only one to chart in Australia. The album does however include Cabello’s #1 duet with Shawn Mendes, ‘Senorita’, from his self-titled third studio album.
#13: Kylie Minogue ‘Golden – Live In Concert’ – Aussie superstar Kylie Minogue makes her 19th appearance in the Top 20 with the companion piece to her most recent studio album, Golden, which debuted at #1 in April 2018. This is Minogue’s highest charting live album in the ARIA Albums Chart, following Showgirl Homecoming Live (#28 Feb. ‘07) and Intimate & Live (#28 Dec. ‘98). She also charted at #1 earlier this year with Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection (#1 Jun. ’19).
#29: The Chainsmokers ‘World War Joy’ – US duo The Chainsmokers return to the Top 50 with their third studio album. The dance group previously had a hit with their debut Memories…Do Not Open (#4 Apr. ‘17) but their second album Sicko failed to chart. World War Joy features a number of collaborators including Australian acts 5 Seconds of Summer and Amy Shark, as well as blink-182, Kygo and Ty Dolla $ign.
#50: Liam Payne ‘LP1’ – Liam Payne becomes the fourth One Direction star to release a solo album since the band entered their indefinite hiatus in 2016, following Harry Styles, Niall Horan and former member Zayn Malik. LP1 features singles ‘Strip That Down’ (#2 Jul. ‘17) and ‘For You (Fifty Shades Freed)’ featuring Rita Ora (#15 Feb. ’18).
