Singles Chartifacts: 

#1: Tones And I ‘Dance Monkey’ – Hitting its 14th week at #1, ‘Dance Monkey’ by Tones And I breaks the ARIA Charts record for most consecutive weeks at #1 on the Singles Chart. Current record holder for most weeks at #1, Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’, only managed to hold the top spot for 13 straight weeks, dropping to #2 for a week, before returning to #1 for two more weeks.

Tones And I is now the Australian female artist who has spent the second most amount of time at #1 over her entire career. This week she equals Delta Goodrem’s 14 weeks but has a long way to go to reach Kylie Minogue’s 30 weeks.

Also this week, her follow up ‘Never Seen The Rain’ comes in at #12.

#2: Selena Gomez ‘Lose You To Love Me’ – Selena Gomez picks up two debuts on this week’s ARIA Singles Chart. Hitting #2, ‘Lose You To Love Me’ is the first single released from Gomez’s forthcoming third solo album. ‘Look At Her Now’, which has debuted at #29, has been released as a standalone single. Gomez charted earlier in the year with ‘I Can’t Get Enough’ (#43 Mar. ’19), a collaboration with Benny Blanco, Tainy and J Balvin.

#6: Lizzo ‘Good As Hell’ – Jumping up seven spots to #6, ‘Truth Hurts’ by American singer/rapper/flautist Lizzo hits the ARIA Top Ten for the first time. The rise of ‘Truth Hurts’ comes after a new version was released featuring Ariana Grande. The single is currently #1 in the US.

#7: Kanye West ‘Follow God’ – Topping the Albums Chart with Jesus Is King, Kanye West snags ten entries on this week’s Singles Chart. Debuting at #7, ‘Follow God’ is the highest-placed track from the album. West has also charted with ‘Selah’ (#18), ‘Closed On Sunday’ (#19), ‘On God’ (#21), ‘Everything We Need’ (#26), ‘Every Hour’ (#33), ‘Use This Gospel’ (#36), ‘Water’ (#37), ‘God Is’ (#39) and ‘Hands On’ (#46). The hip hop star scored seven Top 50 entries from his previous album, ye (#1 Jun. ’18).

#15: Flume Feat. Vera Blue ‘Rushing Back’ – In its fifth week in the Top 50, Flume’s ‘Rushing Back’ hits a new peak at #15. It’s the third week in a row that the single has reached a new peak.

#1: Kanye West ‘Jesus Is King’ – American hip hop star Kanye West takes out his third #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with Jesus Is King. After several intended releases dates came and went, West’s ninth solo studio album saw the light of day on 25 October. It features a host of collaborators including Ty Dolla Sign, Kenny G, Clipse, Benny Blanco and Timbaland. West previously hit #1 with ye (#1 Jun. ’18) and Yeezus (#1 Jun. ’13).

#4: Rex Orange County ‘Pony’ – Releasing Pony, his third studio album, Rex Orange County makes his ARIA Top 50 debut. The first two albums by the British singer-songwriter also known as Alexander O’Connor were self-released: bcos u will never b free (2016) and Apricot Princess (2017).

#5: James Blunt ‘Once Upon A Mind’ – James Blunt scores his seventh Top Ten album on the ARIA Charts with Once Upon A Mind. The sixth album from the English singer-songwriter is the follow-up to The Afterlove (#7 Apr. ’17). James Bunt has topped the chart with Back To Bedlam (#1 Aug. ’05) and All The Lost Souls (#1 Sept. ’07).

#11: Van Morrison ‘Three Chords And The Truth’ – Veteran singer-songwriter Van Morrison releases his sixth album in four years, Three Chords And The Truth. Coming just under a year on from The Prophet Speaks (#49 Dec. ’18), the new album is Morrison’s 41st studio album. It features a duet with The Righteous Brothers’ Bill Medley.

#14: Airbourne ‘Boneshaker’ – Hard rockers Airbourne notch up their fifth ARIA Top 50 entry as they debut with Boneshaker. The follow-up to Breakin’ Outta Hell (#13 Oct. ’16) is the band’s first album to feature guitarist Matt Harrison, who joined in 2017.

#18: Chillinit ‘Women Weed & Wordplay’ – Sydney rapper Chillinit returns to the chart at #18 with his debut album, Women Weed & Wordplay. The release previously debuted and peaked at #41 back in November 2018.
