Singles Chartifacts: 

#1: Drake ‘Nice For What’ – Drake takes over from himself at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart with ‘Nice For What’. The track, which debuted at #7 last week, ends the run of ‘God’s Plan’, which held #1 for 11 consecutive weeks. It’s the Canadian rapper’s third #1 single in Australia, having previously topped the chart for seven weeks with ‘One Dance’ (#1 May ’16).

#9: Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa ‘One Kiss’ – After debuting at #17 last week, ‘One Kiss’ by Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa moves up eight spots to crack the Top Ten in its second week on the chart. It becomes Harris’ 14th Top Ten as lead artist and Dua Lipa’s fourth Top Ten entry.

#16: Noah Kahan & Julia Michaels ‘Hurt Somebody’ – In its fifth week in the Top 50, ‘Hurt Somebody’ climbs up four spots to a new peak of #16.

#25: Cardi B Feat. J Balvin & Bad Bunny ‘I Like It’ (Debut) – After making her debut on the Albums Chart last week at #6 with Invasion Of Privacy (#5 Apr. ’18), Cardi B scores a second Top 50 entry on the Singles Chart with ‘I Like It’. The track becomes the American rapper’s highest peak to date, taking over from ‘Bodak Yellow’ (#33 Nov. ’17).

#26: Bad Wolves ‘Zombie’ – American metal band Bad Wolves move up ten spots to #26 with their take on The Cranberries’ ‘Zombie’. The original spent eight weeks at #1 on the Singles Chart in late-1994 and early-1995. It was the Irish band’s sole #1 single in Australia.

Albums Chartifacts:

#1: Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu ‘Djarimirri (Child Of The Rainbow)’ (Debut) – With his fourth studio album, the late Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu scores his first #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Posthumously released, Djarimirri (Child Of The Rainbow) was completed just weeks before the Yolngu singer-songwriter’s passing in July 2017. It becomes the first album in an indigenous language to top the ARIA Charts. Gurrumul’s previous three studio albums all peaked at #3: Gurrumul (#3 Oct. ’08), Rrakala (#3 Apr. ’11) and The Gospel Album (#3 Aug. ’15).

Djarimirri (Child Of The Rainbow) is the third Australian #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart in 2018 after Vance Joy’s Nation Of Two and Kylie Minogue’s Golden.

#9: Breaking Benjamin ‘Ember’ (Debut) – American rockers Breaking Benjamin crack the top ten on the ARIA Albums Chart for the first time with Ember. The group’s sixth album comes three years on from their only other Top 50 entry, Dark Before Dawn (#11 Jun. ’15) and four years on from their return from hiatus.

#10: Jason Aldean ‘Rearview Town’ (Debut) – Jason Aldean takes out a second Top Ten entry with Rearview Town. The American country star scored his highest peak with previous release They Don’t Know (#5 Sept. ’16). Rearview Town includes collaborations with Miranda Lambert and Florida Georgia Line.

#25: Kendrick Lamar ‘Damn.’ – In the week he was announced as the winner of the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music, rapper Kendrick Lamar jumps back up 13 spots with fourth album,Damn. (#2 Apr. ’17).

#26: Pentatonix ‘PTX Presents: Top Pop, Vol. I’ (Debut) – A cappella group Pentatonix release PTX Presents: Top Pop, Vol. I. The quintet’s sixth studio album is also their sixth release to hit the Top 50 of the Albums Chart. It comes a year on from PTX, VOL. 4 (#10 Apr. ’17) and is their first album to feature new bass vocalist Matt Sallee.
