Singles Chartifacts: 

#1: Mariah Carey ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ – Twenty four years after its initial release,  All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey finally lands at #1 on this week’s ARIA Singles Chart. The track has been re-entering the singles chart every festive season since 2012. This week’s position in top spot beats the track’s original peak of #2 during its original chart run in 1994, which it held for two weeks.

#5: Wham! ‘Last Christmas’ – Jumping up thirteen spots on this week’s chart, Wham’s Last Christmas lands in the top 5 for only the second time since its inaugural appearance at #3 in December 1984. The single has been working its way up the ARIA Singles Chart Top 40 for the last four weeks.

#14: John Lennon, Yoko Ono & Plastic Ono Band ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)’ – Coming in at #14 this week and making its first appearance on the ARIA Singles Chart is Happy Xmas (War is Over) by John Lennon, Yoko Ono & The Plastic Ono Band. The single jumped straight into the ARIA top 40 singles this week with the track previously peaking in the Top 10 in the early 70’s (pre-ARIA Charts).

#1: Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper ‘A Star Is Born’ – Notching up its tenth week at #1, Bradley Cooper & Lady Gaga’s Soundtrack A Star Is Born holds out against fierce Christmas competition to retain the top spot. The album has now topped the charts in over 15 countries, attaining platinum certifications from many of them, Australia included.

#9: Mariah Carey ‘Merry Christmas’ – After finally claiming the top single for the Christmas season, Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas leaps up into the Top 10 for the first time since its initial run in 1994 in which it peaked at #2.  This week will give the album a total of 4 weeks in the ARIA Albums Chart Top 10.

#34: 21 Savage ‘I Am > I Was’ (Debut) – American rapper 21 Savage records his highest solo peak to date with second studio album I Am > I Was. The album comes one year on from his debut Issa Album, which peaked at #42. In between albums, Savage has teamed up with Offset and Metro Boomin to deliver the collaborative release Without Warning, which landed at No.39 in 2017.
