OLD MERVS
release sophomore EP
‘GIVE IT UP’

In the midst of their sold out national tour, WA indie-rock outfit Old Mervs are finally unveiling their sophomore EP Give It Up. After giving us glimpses of the band’s new era, the two piece are returning with their most liberated and open-hearted EP yet to mark their next musical chapter.
Led by propulsive tracks “Sweetheart” and “Hey”, Give It Up introduces us to four new singles crafted to capture Old Mervs’ effervescent live energy. The result of a no-pressure, unfiltered writing session by the coast in southern WA, singer Dave House and drummer Henry Carrington-Jones were able to experiment and refine concepts that had bubbled up over the years.
Henry shares, “We booked an Airbnb and just went in fresh. We wanted to just get completely out of Perth and try and lay down something different. It wasn’t ever forced, we just wanted to get together and jam and write together.”
Give It Up is a fresh and polished EP, but retains the classic Old Mervs charm, loaded with tracks ready to slip into their live show. Showcasing the bands emotional maturity, Give It Up explores the kaleidoscopic experiences of growing up and getting older as you balance friendships, relationships and self-identity.

“Sweetheart”, which has been on triple j’s most played tracks list since June, kicks the EP off on an infectiously fun note before changing up the pace with the melancholic “Hey”. “Leave That” bounds along on tight guitars and drums whilst grappling with the decision to let go and move on.
Title track “Give It Up” stretches out languidly like a rolling wave, setting the scene for tender ballad “Wasting Time”. Delicately struck acoustic guitar allows Dave’s vocals take centre-stage as he pores over chasing dead-ends. Wrapping things up with a raucous cover of Stealers Wheel’s classic, “Stuck In The Middle With You”, a fan favourite of the duo’s live sets, Old Mervs’ larrikin charm is as alive as ever.
Garnering a local reputation for their energetic, epic singalong shows in WA, Old Mervs have quickly become one of Australia’s hottest commodities. Currently out on their On The Road Again Tour, with many shows selling out, Old Mervs have been busy doing what they do best, performing to their much loved Australian audiences, including an absolutely mammoth crowd at Yours & Owls in October.
Hitting home runs with stand out singles like 2020 track “Cellphone”, 2021’s “Wait Around” and “Where I Go” which placed 123rd in the Hottest 100/200, the two-piece soundtrack life’s growing pains wrapped in catchy hooks and breezy guitars. With Dave House and Henry Carrington-Jones starting out as school friends in Kojonup, WA rehearsing in a makeshift space in an old farm shed, Old Mervs are a far cry from their humble beginnings.
Turning heads of industry and fans alike with their sunny sound, the duo have supported some of the biggest tours in the country including Liam Gallagher, The Wombats, SpaceyJane and King Stingray, along with festival slots at Groovin the Moo and Splendour in the Grass.
Give It Up is available now wherever you consume good music.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
