Boorloo/Perth’s Olivia De Melo explores all aspects of relationship betrayals and their consequences on latest single She Can Have The Moon, teaming up with veteran West Aussie MC Bitter Belief, out February 8, 2024. STREAM + DOWNLOAD HERE.
She Can Have The Moon was born where many of De Melo’s songs are – in the car while driving. Quickly recording a voice note and later adding guitar chords, Olivia took the song into the studio. Influenced by her lifelong love of 90s rap and r&b, boom bap style hip hop drums were added alongside a buttery smooth bassline, however after putting the finishing touches on the track, something was still missing – a guest feature from a rapper.
That missing link proved to be West Aussie OG Bitter Belief (Syllabolix Crew). Instantly vibing on the cut, Bitter Belief wrote his verse in one afternoon, with the final version coming together quickly and effortlessly. The result sees De Melo’s smoky, sultry indie-pop meets 90s r&b style vocals perfectly complemented by Bitter Belief’s storytelling bars that pack clever rhyme scheme and witty wordplay, while the titular chorus proves to be an instant earworm.
Speaking on her new single, Olivia explains “‘She Can Have the Moon’ is an intergalactic moment in time where I put my big girl pants on and, with self-love and pride, own a stark reality – the realisation that the promise of all the stars in the sky mean nothing without trust and integrity. For anyone that’s ever been betrayed or let down by someone, this is your moment to let your inner sass sparkle.”

She Can Have The Moon follows a massive 2023 for Olivia that saw the release of four distinct singles, including most recently SOAK featuring Wesley Black, that saw praise and airplay from the likes of Pilerats, ABC, RTRFM and over 30 other community radio stations around Australia. Meanwhile on the live stage, De Melo has played alongside the likes of Dulcie, Timothy Nelson, Otiuh, Old Blood, Riley Pierce, Teisha and many more.
Her first release for 2024, She Can Have The Moon marks a watershed moment in De Melo’s music career. With hundreds of songs ready to be recorded, Olivia made a determined effort to let go of perfectionism, while also staying truer to the sounds she wants to make and not giving in to external pressures.

OLIVIA DE MELO bio
Olivia De Melo is back in 2023 with a wave of new indie tracks, upcoming EP & local & international touring dates. It’s not surprising that her fresh releases dip into multi-genre waters, but what remains iconic is De Melo’s distinctive alt pop vocals with rich harmonies and melody lines which allow her to swim in any genre of music, whilst remaining identifiably unique. Olivia planted herself in the Perth music scene just over 5 years ago when she picked up her poetry book, taught herself the guitar, & re-sparked her lost passion for music & performing from her school days.
Performing in many of WA’s most popular venues since, De Melo has supported & played alongside WA’s favourites, including Dulcie, Timothy Nelson, Otiuh, Old Blood, Riley Pierce, Teisha, Jordy Maxwell, & Michael Dunstan. Balancing a life teaching at university juxtaposed with a passion for song-writing, the academic and the muso inside of Olivia are in sync. Before music, she was working with special needs & Australian Aboriginal students, as well as liaising with remote Aboriginal communities, working with elders to develop and deliver cultural awareness training across WA.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
