Fast riser Olivia Dean releases her third studio EP Growth, featuring the singles ‘Be My Own Boyfriend’ and ‘Slowly’. The Londoner’s new EP is an introspective, heartfelt collection of tracks reflecting on lessons learned over the past year, marking a significant period of growth for Dean.
“Growth is a time capsule of the last year, it’s me processing my perspective on love and loving myself. Each song feels like a different stage of understanding relationships, whether with yourself or somebody else. It’s at times felt like my most difficult project but in the end has been the most rewarding. I know myself so much better through this music,” she says.
Growth’s stunning artwork ties into many of the themes of strength and self love explored across the EP, with Olivia embracing the growth of her hair: “Alongside the theme of personal growth, hair growth and acceptance of my hair has been a big theme attached to this music. Learning to look after it and myself has allowed me to feel the most me I’ve ever been,” she explains.

To celebrate the release, Olivia Dean today also shares a live performance video of new EP track ‘Cross My Mind’, filmed at one of two sensational sold out shows at London’s Jazz Cafe last month. Of ‘Cross My Mind’, she adds that it’s “a song about my tendency to not tell the people I love, that I love them. It’s a reminder that if they don’t hear from me it doesn’t mean I’m not thinking about them.”

Olivia’s shows at The Jazz Cafe were her first since taking to the road last summer playing socially distanced shows from her custom yellow van. The ‘From Me To You’ van tour was inspired by the community spirit of early lockdown and Olivia’s desire to spread some much needed sunshine. Paving the way for artists to safely find a way to get back to playing live again, Olivia, the van and her band visited everywhere from London to Cornwall to Norfolk, as featured on BBC London News and Blue Peter, with performances NME called “staggeringly beautiful”. She’ll be taking the van out to play across the UK again later this summer – stay tuned to Olivia’s socials for dates and locations.

Born and raised in Walthamstow, Olivia Dean caught the eye of London label AMF (Loyle Carner, Marika Hackman) with her first ever song ‘Reason to Stay’, which she uploaded to Spotify and Soundcloud where it quickly gained hundreds of thousands of streams. At the end of last year, Olivia shared her second EP What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays?, produced by Felix Joseph (Jorja Smith, AJ Tracey, Mahalia) and featuring the singles ‘Echo’ and ‘The Hardest Part’, it displays her flawless vocals and endearing diaristic storytelling.
Olivia Dean’s new EP Growth comes as a culmination of her most confident and self-assured work to date. Named as Amazon Music’s Breakthrough artist for 2021, Olivia also has fans across BBC Radio 1, Beats 1, The Guardian, Sunday Times, The FADER, Harper’s Bazaar, gal-dem, Notion, Bustle, NME, Clash and more; her ascent as one of the UK’s brightest pop talents is undeniable.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
